For the past three months, my life has transformed significantly thanks to my dedicated physiotherapist, Jessica, who has been pivotal in my journey towards improved health and well-being. Each week on Wednesday, we meet for intensive training sessions that have not only helped me learn the importance of pacing during exercises but have also significantly enhanced my strength and endurance. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funding cuts now threaten this vital service—a service that has become an essential part of my life and wellness journey.

The physiotherapy programs supported by NDIS are not just about physical health; they’re about empowering individuals like myself to achieve our potential, live with dignity, and foster independence. The statistics are clear: consistent physiotherapy can dramatically improve an individual's physical capabilities, mental health, and overall quality of life. Yet, the recent budget cuts have jeopardized access to these essential programs.

Australia is home to nearly 4.4 million individuals living with some form of disability. Among these, many rely heavily on NDIS programs to maintain and improve their daily living and community involvement. The funding cut means many, including myself, might have to forgo crucial personalized physiotherapy sessions that are instrumental in managing our conditions effectively.

Restoring this funding is crucial not only for me but for countless others who depend on these services. Physiotherapists like Jessica are vital resources who guide our physical rehabilitation and empowerment. Without the necessary funding, we risk losing access to expertly tailored physiotherapy that helps us lead healthier, more independent lives.

We urge the leadership of NDIS and the respective policymakers to reconsider this decision.
