In the 1990s, after wrapping filming on True Lies in 1991, James Cameron wrote a scriptment for a darker and gritter film adaptation of Spider-Man akin to Batman(1989) after completing the screenplay for Carolco Pictures/MGM. The planned scriptment used reimaginations and renamings of the comic book characters Electro and Sandman as villains. Electro was now named Carlton Strand, a Donald Trump-like businessman who had a corrupt view of the world and Sandman was now a character named Boyd who was mutated in a accident involving Philadelphia Experiment-style bilocation and atom-mixing, in lieu of getting caught in a nuclear blast on the beach and became Strand's right-hand henchman. The story ended with a battle atop of the old World Trade Centre and Peter Parker revealing to Mary Jane Watson that he is Spider-Man.

If this was adapted into comic-book form, it would be a piece of old nostalgia a lot of Marvel fans would love to see. It would also inspire more unproduced superhero films like Superman V: Reborn and Batman Triumphant to finally come to life in comic-book form.
