I'm calling on all Australians to make a conscious decision to support our local businesses by purchasing goods from within Australia rather than defaulting to buying overseas products. As someone deeply connected to this community, I have seen firsthand the importance of local businesses and the significant role they play in our economy. These businesses are the backbone of our country, providing jobs, supporting families, and contributing to our vibrant local culture. Unfortunately, many of our local companies are struggling to stay afloat as a growing number of Australians choose to purchase cheaper goods from overseas markets. While international products might seem less expensive initially, the long-term cost to our economy and community is significant. Every dollar spent on overseas goods is money that does not return to our economy and is a lost opportunity to support local craftsmanship and businesses that have proudly served us for generations.

The economic benefits of buying local are profound. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, small businesses account for a significant portion of all businesses in our country and employ almost half of our workforce. When we invest in these businesses, we invest in our communities and our future. Supporting local businesses means stimulating local economies, creating jobs, and enriching our national identity.

By opting to buy Australian-made, we ensure that our money stays within our borders, helping to bolster not just our local communities but the nation at large. It strengthens the economy, fosters innovation, and preserves the unique character of our market.

Today, I urge every one of you to reconsider your shopping habits and make a conscious effort to support our local businesses.
