My carer inspired me to create this petition after researching the dire issue of homelessness in Australia online. I believe it is crucial to address this by advocating solely for Australians who find themselves without homes, jobs, or the means to afford rent. Many Australians are forced to live on the streets or in their caravans simply because they cannot find or afford adequate housing. By providing affordable housing, we can change the trajectory of thousands of lives.

The numbers tell their own tale. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, over 116,000 Australians are experiencing homelessness, many living in crowded dwellings or having no shelter at all. This lack of stability significantly impacts their ability to secure employment, further perpetuating the cycle of poverty and homelessness.

Creating affordable housing solutions is not merely about building more homes; it's about investing in community wellbeing and helping individuals regain control of their lives. By ensuring that all Australians have access to affordable and adequate housing, we empower them to seek jobs and contribute positively to the economy.

The Australian government must take immediate action to address this pressing issue. This can be achieved by increasing funding for affordable housing projects, implementing policies that regulate rental prices, and providing support services for those transitioning from homelessness.
