I live in Glenwood, a charming town in Queensland that is under threat due to inadequate road infrastructure in rural areas, especially with recent weather changes. Our area and many other rural communities face severe inundation whenever there are heavy rains, leaving roads submerged and people stranded. Efforts to combat climate change have seen an upswing in the use of renewable energy, but this progress on a global scale does not stop the immediate challenges we face locally.

The flooding in Queensland isn't just an inconvenience; it poses serious safety risks for people and animals alike. The water damage isn't only harmful to our roads but also affects the homes of both residents and wildlife. Homeless individuals and stray animals are particularly vulnerable, left exposed on these damaged roads, suffering while awaiting help. Their plight urges us to take immediate action not only for road repairs but for humane considerations as well.

While global initiatives like the adoption of renewable energy signal hope for a sustainable future, they must be paired with local infrastructure projects that protect citizens and wildlife now. Focusing on fixing road construction in rural areas like Glenwood will offer a dual benefit: ensuring safe passage during adverse weather and saving lives. It’s a necessary step to safeguarding our community against further harm and ensuring that all residents have secure, reliable access to their homes and local services.

The Queensland Government must prioritize this issue and allocate necessary funds to enhance flood defenses and improve drainage systems in our rural towns. This infrastructure improvement is essential not only to prevent future flooding disasters but also to create a safer environment for all living beings.

Please join me in urging the Queensland Government to take immediate action to address this pressing issue. Your signature will push for much-needed change, reflecting our community's demand for safety and care for all its inhabitants. Sign this petition to amplify our voices before it's too late.
