Learn4Life is a valuable tool for seniors. I have seen seniors and adults learn together in these classes at affordable prices. This program creates opportunities for connecting with people of all generations while picking up a new skill.

Learn4Life is an important program for adults and particularly seniors. These classes help keep seniors active and socially connected with their communities. It is important to maintain affordable and accessible community programming for seniors.

Since moving to Toronto in 2019, the TDSB Learn4Life program has been an incredible resource for me to meet people, learn new skills, and explore interests in a safe and accessible way. I have taken courses through TDSB as varied as bicycle maintenance, beginner mandarin, ink and pen drawing, and sewing. I have met many great people through the program, and have always been struck by the wide diversity of people in both age and background that take part in Learn4Life courses. The courses are economically accessible and geographically accessible. The price and the fact that there are locations across the GTA make it easy for people to access these courses. The incredible variety of courses is also staggering and cannot be found anywhere else. Learn4Life teachers and instructors are leaders in our communities that value passing on their knowledge. They are an incredible resource for this city that the Learn4Life program allows anyone to access. When people move to this city, the TDSB Learn4Life courses are one of the first things I recommend for those looking to meet people and try something new. The loss of this program would be an incredible blow to Toronto. Supporting the Learn4Life program going forward is a commitment to the value of community and education. I truly hope that this program continues for years to come. For me, it will always be an important part of what makes Toronto such an amazing place to live.

We are a group of concerned residents from the Burnaby area who recently learned of the City’s plan to open a new homeless shelter in Spring 2026, located just steps away from our homes. While we fully recognize the need to support vulnerable populations, we believe that the proposed location raises serious and legitimate safety concerns that cannot be ignored. The shelter is planned near key community spaces, including: A childcare center (one block away), A retirement residence and long-term care facility at 4136 Norfolk Street, Broadview Park and Playground, And over 116 families living in the surrounding streets — many with young children and seniors. Our concerns are not theoretical. In recent years, our neighborhood has experienced: Multiple break-ins in our townhome complexes' parkades, The discovery of drug paraphernalia and a pocket knife in a shared public area (between Norfolk St and Dominion St) And most tragically, the fatal stabbing of an RCMP officer by a homeless individual at Broadview Park — just two and a half years ago. These incidents, along with the continued presence of nearby encampments, have left many residents feeling unsafe and unheard. We are calling on the City of Burnaby to reconsider the location of this shelter and to meaningfully engage with our community before proceeding. We urge city leaders to: Prioritize the safety and well-being of all residents — including children, seniors, and vulnerable individuals on both sides of this issue, Provide transparency about the decision-making process, And commit to finding a solution that truly balances compassion with community safety. If you share our concerns, please sign and share this petition. Let’s work together to ensure thoughtful, safe, and responsible planning for everyone in our city. Thank you for your support

I want to express my deep concern regarding the proposed placement of a homeless shelter directly across from our residential community. While I understand and support the need for more services to assist the homeless population, placing such a facility in the middle of a neighborhood with vulnerable seniors, hardworking families, and young children is unacceptable. My family chose this area specifically for its safety and stability. We’ve invested years of savings into our home, expecting our children to grow up with the freedom to enjoy local parks and the outdoors. That sense of safety is now at risk. We have already experienced a tragic and fatal incident involving a police officer and a homeless person practically in our own backyard, which only reinforces our concerns. This decision appears to have been made without consultation or consideration for those of us who will bear the heaviest consequences. Our voices matter. We deserve a say before changes are made that could significantly impact our well-being and the character of our neighborhood. Please reconsider this location and explore alternatives that do not compromise the safety and stability of existing residential communities.

Dear Premier Eby, Minister Kahlon, and MLA Kang: We respectfully request an immediate pause on the 80-bed shelter proposed for 3020 Gilmore Diversion until a transparent public process—complete with open forums, data on alternative sites, and genuine community feedback—can occur. Residents of this quiet, family-oriented neighborhood were not notified of the 2025 zoning change that removed the need for rezoning or hearings, leaving no opportunity to vet crucial concerns: the absence of wrap-around support services for people facing addiction or severe mental-health challenges; the potential safety risks to nearby children, seniors, and long-time homeowners; and the broader precedent of approving large facilities behind closed doors. Pausing now will allow government, service providers, and neighbors to collaborate on a location that offers immediate transit, healthcare, and social supports—while restoring trust that major land-use decisions in Burnaby are made openly, responsibly, and with the well-being of all vulnerable groups at heart.

As a resident of this neighbourhood living in a strata for many years we have experienced: - several break-ins - stolen property - wanton damage to property - drug paraphernalia on our premises - the murder of a RCMP officer by a homeless person The facts speak for themselves. NO to a homeless shelter.

How is it possible that those of us living directly around the proposed shelter site were not consulted? This lack of transparency is unacceptable. Placing a shelter in the middle of a residential area—home to seniors, children, and working families—raises serious concerns about safety, quality of life, and the long-term impact on our property values. These are not abstract fears; they are real and immediate to the people who live here. It feels as though our community is being disregarded, even harmed, in the name of a plan that hasn’t considered the consequences for those who will be most affected. Why are the people who have invested in and built their lives here being left out of the conversation? We demand that this process be paused until full, fair community consultation takes place. Decisions of this magnitude must not be made without those who will live with the outcome.

It's upsetting that decision makers are excluding the people who live in, and positively contribute to this community. They know full well the negative impact this type of project can have on safety without proper planning and consultation. We need people in these positions who actually have common sense.

where I live they have already done this to us. we have been fighting for 4 years while violent altercations occur and only 2% of the 1000 people who travel through seek rehab. there is drug bags, crackpipies, needles on our lawns, people poo, have sex, Rob and beat people up. they leave food garbage from this good will program everywhere on our property and the city employs US to clean it up. they are enlisting you in a war this will be YOUR Responsibility. 911 will prioritize them and you will be asked as a victim of a crime to ensure the criminal is OK. they will sleep on your property and freely help themselves to your belongings. people will be afraid to let their kids out, walk their dogs, they will steal your cats, elderly people will be unwilling to leave the safety of their homes. DO NOT ALLOW THIS. they don't care about addicts they care about their own self congratulatory egos. they care about how good it makes them feel not problem solving else they wouldn't be so content to create problems for the residents without even asking if people recovering from addiction who did what they needed to do made it out to live better lives. they will drag them back down into a population that is NOT INTERESTED in help by majority. they will say "the problem was already in the neighborhood" and deny any responsibility. I am 4 years in to what they are bringing to you and your program is MUCH worse. my program is just a free lunch and showers.
