Victories in Access to Healthcare

The issues Dr. Stockton is fighting against are the reasons why I stopped working at Eagle ridge ED. The conditions for patients and staff caused a lot of moral distress. It is impossible to safely care for the patients when there is no support for the people working understaffed and overwhelmed by growing patient volumes and acuity. It is not the fault of the staff who are simply trying their hardest to do their best by the patients! FHA needs to listen to their staff and support them if they want to have safer patient care.

I have been an ED RN for 12 years. I love the ED. I love being able to do good safe work and make a patients worst day better. That’s not possible right now. We need upstream fixes. Not bandaids! It’s more staff not more money ! Make essential workers schooling free ( Doctors, nurses, care aids, allied health etc etc ) do that for 10 years it’s cheaper than the OT we are spending !!!

FH does not provide safe space to staff to bring forward their concerns especially RCH. It is the most toxic workplace. The senior leadership ignores genuine issues and reprimands those who speak up. I really hope Dr. Stockton wins and show them their places. The frontline staff cannot be let out down by management.

I left the Emergency Department in 2017, but this issue has been ongoing since I began working there in 2011—and it has only worsened over time. The experience of being consistently understaffed while caring for high-acuity patients left me with significant PTSD. This situation must change. Our healthcare system is at risk of collapse if we continue down this path. We owe it to our staff, our patients, and their families to do better. We love this work deeply, but continuing under these conditions—with constant moral distress—is unsustainable.

As a healthcare retiree, our retiree coverage is a sad joke! No vision coverage, no dental coverage, minimal prescription coverage! Almost not worth it to pay for! Prior to retirement, with my son having asthma, our prescription coverage was gone in April! Thank goodness he was usually the only one needing medications! The vision coverage only covered the cost of the eye exam! When you hear what other company’s coverage is like, ours lacks so much!

Coverage for my ADHD meds runs out by March. Now that others in my family require them too it'll run out even sooner. How sad is that.

At this time I don’t need prescription benefits and am grateful for that with the poor coverage, but that could always change! The vision benefits are ridiculous and maximums for extended benefits, as outlined in the petition, are poor as well. So many injuries in healthcare that it would be nice to have massage coverage that would at least cover one massage a month. Very poor healthcare benefits for the people keeping the system afloat.
