School dress code reform is a pressing issue affecting students around the world, as arbitrary and gender-biased rules often restrict individual expression and reinforce harmful stereotypes. Petitions on this topic call for inclusive dress codes that do not discriminate based on gender, race, or body type. Some petitions specifically highlight the need to end body shaming and promote a safe and comfortable learning environment for all students.
One prominent petition advocates for allowing students to wear clothing that reflects their identity and culture, emphasizing the importance of respecting diverse backgrounds. Another petition focuses on eliminating sexist dress code policies that disproportionately target female students, citing instances of unfair disciplinary actions.
Join the movement for school dress code reform by supporting these petitions and amplifying the voices of students advocating for change. Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable educational environment for all.
The decision to ban skirts for girls isn’t just about uniforms, it reflects a deeper double standard. While boys are free to sag their pants or bend dress code rules without the same scrutiny, girls are being singled out and restricted. This sends the message that our clothing is inherently inappropriate or distracting, which shifts the blame onto us instead of holding everyone to the same expectation of respect. In a Catholic school that preaches dignity, equality, and moral responsibility, it feels hypocritical to enforce a rule that disproportionately limits girls’ expression while overlooking the same behavior in boys. Do better O’dowd.
It’s inconvenient for students who have already bought expensive backpacks that are gonna go to no use, it’s a violation of privacy for female students who need personal hygiene products. Someone who really wants to bring a gun is gonna bring it one way or another the clear backpacks aren’t gonna stop anything, the parents who have already bought expensive backpacks have to go and spend even more money on a clear backpack, is ECISD gonna refund all that money to all these parents? no.
Us having to wear a clear backpack is difficult. For girls especially since we have sanitary items that we need EVERY MONTH. If we cant even have pouches in our bag to hide our sanitary items then how are we supposed to hide them. We don’t want guys to be seeing that like are we serious. Having backpacks with designs and covers are better because we are allowed our privacy that WE AS MINORS are entitled too.
