Education reform is a critical topic that seeks to address key issues within the educational system to ensure all students receive quality education. Recent trends in education reform focus on increasing access to resources, improving teacher-student ratios, and promoting inclusive learning environments free from discrimination.
Petitions under this topic advocate for various reforms, including increased funding for schools in underserved communities, implementing comprehensive sex education programs, and holding educational institutions accountable for addressing systemic inequalities. One petition with thousands of signatures calls for standardized testing reform, arguing that these assessments do not accurately measure student success and put undue pressure on students and teachers.
By exploring and supporting these petitions, individuals can contribute to the movement for educational equity and excellence. Take action today to help shape the future of education and ensure a brighter tomorrow for students worldwide.
I am a wheeling high school alumni, former high school teacher, and GSA sponsor. Elevating Charlie Kirk to such a high honor would send a message opposite of inclusivity and not take into account the many populations he defamed throughout his career.
We spend six hours in class every day, and now we don’t even get a full hour at lunch to ourselves. Students need that time to eat without rushing, talk to friends, catch up on homework, or just take a break so we can focus better in the afternoon. Taking away the hour lunch makes the day feel even longer, and advisory doesn’t give us the same benefits that a real break does
Weekly book club meetings are one of my favorite parts of school. With the split lunches, many clubs will be stopped or broken in half. And with over 400 students in my grade, I have almost no classes with my friends. Lunch is the only time at school I see some of them. The split lunches will break apart the communities that have formed in school clubs, and I don’t think that helps anyone.
There is not a single reason for having split lunches that couldn’t be fixed by simply having longer lunches. I can only speak for Ballard High School, but the one issue that split lunches fixes is that people who get school lunch will be able to get their food more quickly, and overall this new schedule raises way more problems than it solves. For example, since classrooms will be in use during lunch, clubs won’t be able to meet and will have to be pushed to after school, which is not possible for many club leaders. There’s also the issue of test retakes. I know at least for my geometry class, lunch is the only time we can make up or retake tests, which will no longer be possible because of the classroom being in use during lunch. Aside from that, for many students lunch is the only time time that they can relax with their friends and take a break from the stressfulness of school. I understand that this was an executive decision by the district and that individual schools didn’t have a choice in this matter, but splitting lunches makes absolutely no sense for anyone.
I was sitting in class when my mom was trying to call me. She wanted to tell me that my grandma had just passed away from cancer. But I never got the call, because my phone was locked away in a Yondr pouch. When I got home, she broke down telling me that she couldn’t reach me in the moment she needed me most.
what if something happens?? so many school shootings and threats happen nowadays and students need their phones. they should be allowed to contact parents if something happens either in school or a personal issue. if anything teachers can take our phones during class and give them back after to use in hallways.
Are you going to be the one to look sobbing mothers in the face and tell them that their children couldn’t send their last words because phones are “too distracting” in schools?
It’s not the fact we can’t be on them in class it’s the fact we have to leave them powered off and in our backpacks and we can’t even bring them to the bathroom so if there was an emergency we couldn’t call for help
Not having phones during our free time feels more like a punishment mainly because we already have to focus on school what about the things going on around us?
