Imagine walking into school every day with the intention of learning and growing, only to be told that your clothing is inappropriate because it "distracts boys" or "makes male teachers uncomfortable." This is the daily experience of many female students at Hernando High School, where the dress code policy unfairly polices their choice to wear leggings, perpetuating the harmful notion that girls' bodies are objects. We are not allowed to wear leggings without a shirt or hoodie long enough to go over our bottom.

The existing dress code enforces outdated and discriminatory norms, targeting girls for simply wanting to feel comfortable and express themselves through their clothing choices. Leggings are a popular garment among students because they are practical, comfortable, and appropriate for a learning environment. However, the current policy effectively shames young women for their natural bodies, putting the onus on them to prevent distractions rather than addressing the root issues of respect and gender equality.
