I am deeply concerned that Baw Baw Shire Council's decision prioritises financial considerations over the wellbeing of residents. The consequences are likely to be devastating to families with significant and long lasting impacts on the broader community. Please bring back weekly collections.

Council have not really considered the needs of the community. I hope they just bring back weekly collections.

Not only is this a public health issue that will only worsen as we move in to summer, it particularly affects the elderly, the ill/disabled, women and children.
Aspen supported: Reinstate weekly general waste collections in Baw Baw ShireMayor Kate Wilson stated council had limited scope for genuine consultation because it was implementing "state policy" and described its role as "delivery" rather than decision making - The State Government's Circular Economy (Waste Reduction and Recycling) Act 2021 only requires councils to provide access to a 4-bin system (FOGO by 2030, glass by 2027) it does not mandate how often each bin is collected. Collection frequency is entirely a local council decision, proven by the fact that under this same law, Latrobe City and East Gippsland Shire kept weekly general waste collection while Baw Baw chose to cut ours to fortnightly. Council can't hide behind "the state made us do it" ! The frequency cut was Baw Baw's own choice, and by the mayor's own public admission, one driven largely by rising landfill levy costs, not a legal requirement.
