As I reflect on Remembrance Day on the pure evil that once was in 1939-1945, it is scary what is happening in the world w far right & far left rhetoric & movements It will affect us all in TO Ontario Canada & abroad I know my husband & I upon visiting the Nova music fest installation, could never forget the horrid images heinous acts & what was done to women This was another Holocaust We have homegrown terrorism even in Toronto w plots that have been foiled My husband & I supported Israel’s right to defend itself We denounce the terrorism of Hamas & others I feel the world has not learned & I lose faith in humanity Having had a father-in-law who was a war veteran I know all too well the horrors of those who seek to destroy dehumanize & who don’t care about young people As long as governments ignore crises or use their own agenda to sow more division & less unity in Canada & cities a bleak world more so is created for our kids & grandkids Stop inviting more terrorism into Ca nada now! Canada must show respect to all communities but not invite terror Learn from history!
As a long standing Toronto resident, I’m shocked and disheartened that the flagpole outside city hall will be used to fly the flag of another country. Given what the Palestinian flag has come to represent over the months since October 7, 2023, it is simply nonsense to say this decision is different from supporting any cause. When the raising of this flag makes a large portion of Toronto community members feel physically and psychologically unsafe, it is time to rethink the plan.
I'm a student of the subject MAI SL, and today I have take the TZB exam. Honestly, I think they have made the exam very complicated, since compared to the exams we have available to practice from 2021 plus the specimen papers, it is not even close to what we students have had to face today!. I don't know if this is due to last year's leaks, but if it's because of this, I neither understand why the M25 students would have to suffer these consequences for a past situation and convocatory.
Obviously, I would like to convey to the IB team that this generates a lot of frustration for us, because we have worked very hard during the two years of the Diploma course and have been able to cope with the pressure and the work that this entails, for an exam of this difficulty, never seen before, to have to define our grade and, for some, their future.
In addition, I would like to point out that exercise 11 of the MAI SL exam of TzB had three sections and two of them had to be done with vectors, which were not seen in the syllabus. Please take the necessary measures, we just want a solution. This is serious for IB students.
As someone who consistently scores well in this subject, the paper 1 for AA SL was unnecessarily difficult. I am aware that difficult questions need to be given in order to separate the high scorers from the rest. However, in my point of view, it was not the difficulty levels that were the issue. It was time. The test was poorly designed in terms of time allocated per question. It is not possible for students to attempt all questions in this exam under the given time conditions without skipping over/rushing them. I believe that the IB should test students on their mathematical knowledge, and not how well they manage their time under pressure.
Honestly, that exam felt really unfair. The layout was the same, but the types of questions were way more complicated and unexpected compared to past papers. A lot of us were thrown off, even after practicing properly. It wasn’t that we didn’t study the paper just didn’t reflect what we were prepared for. On top of that, the time pressure made it almost impossible to show proper working or think clearly. That’s not how we should be assessed, and the grade boundaries need to account for that. And I know a lot of my friends, no matter which math they took SL,HL,AI or AA everyone felt the same.
As someone who isnt the best at maths, but still can get some points here and there, the paper was impossible for me. I study using past papers to learn how to do questions that the IB tends to repeat. Unfortunately for me, the questions this year looked nothing like past papers, and frankly im not sure i learned any of it in class. Several students in my class have 7 everywhere, and they came out of the exams saying they failed it. Theres obviously an issue if even the best students flunk the exams.
I have never liked the so-called "principal" and never will. He was touchy, touching girls intimately and overly aggressive (know to swear at students especially when alone in his office). He is a ticking time bomb. Each year, he has been ruining the reputation of the school. He does not care about racism or bullying; students are not his first priority. For the school's motto to be 'Know, Love, Serve' the "principal" has completely lost the meaning and purpose the motto was supposed to bring. As a graduate of this school, I urge parents to not send their children to this school.
I was a strong student at Notre Dame High School, graduating on the honour roll in 2012, being named Student of the Year, and receiving thousands of dollars in scholarships for my academics, volunteerism, and extracurricular involvement. I genuinely loved learning, and many of my teachers created an environment where I could thrive despite personal challenges at home. School became a place of growth and strength for me except when it came to interactions with Roger. Rather than encouraging me, he repeatedly challenged me in ways that felt targeted, not because I was failing, skipping class, or causing problems, but because I did not fit into the mold of the students he chose to uplift. As a young female child at the time, who worked hard to excel despite coming from a divorced family, I felt scrutinized rather than supported. He would remind me of my “broken” background as though it disqualified my achievements, rather than recognizing that my perseverance was something to be celebrated. His behaviour toward students was not aligned with the values of compassion, fairness, or Christian principles that the school claims to uphold. Instead, it reinforced damaging stereotypes and created barriers for those who did not fit his narrow idea of success. To this day, I believe men like him are part of the reason our society struggles to move forward because they use positions of power not to empower, but to diminish. For these reasons, I support his removal.
