Restore the Menihek High School parking lot
The Issue
Living in Labrador City/Wabush we have always valued our community and the institutions that bind us together. Menihek High School is one such institution, playing a pivotal role in our children's education and daily routines. That's why the recent changes to the parking lot have been incredibly distressing for many families in our community’s. We understand that bussing is provided for most student but it’s not always an option to get kids where they need to be on time.
These changes have removed much-needed parking spaces, making it challenging for parents to drop off and pick up their children safely and efficiently. This lack of adequate parking also impacts the many students who have part time jobs and family responsibilities after school. In this changing economy many kids need jobs to help support themselves. Not to mention the students that need to help save for their post secondary education.
The absence of the parking lot creates potential traffic hazards around the school premises, increasing the risk of accidents. This situation becomes even more concerning during harsh weather conditions common in Labrador West, where safe access to school is non-negotiable.
A seemingly small change can have significant implications. We urge school officials and the local government to reconsider their decision and restore the parking lot. The solution is simple: reinstate the previous parking arrangements or develop alternative parking solutions that meet the community's needs.
By signing this petition, you can help voice our community's concerns and push for a resolution that benefits everyone—parents, students, staff, and the broader community. Join us in making a necessary change for our children's safety and our community's wellbeing.
