Affordable housing is required in Ajax. These Red Brick apartments provide such housing to long term residences. Seems pretty unfair to tell people to move and find some where else to live and then rebuild and charge double the rent once the build is complete. This is not steps made towards more affordable housing for Ajax residences but putting many families at risk of homelessness. If those people are pushed out and have to move the town of ajax should be finding them equivalent housing at the same cost as current!
These buildings are a historic representation of ajax, it was built during WW2 to house the "bomb girls" that worked in the ammunition factories in the industrial area across the road. Now a days it provides affordable living for families that have live in this town for decades and because of the housing crisis they get zero retribution or accommodations while being forced out of their homes. Tenants have rights and these poor people are being put on the street because the government has made a loophole to disregard rent control laws. Nearly 100 low income families and those who struggle to live due to disabilities are now being forced onto the streets because of this shameful representation of corporate greed and complete disregard to humanity during these exponentially troubling times in Canada. Canadians are being stripped financially and in this case are also being expropriated out of their homes with zero compensation and ultimately put on the street. The Canada we grew up in, loved, fought for and raised our families with pride in no longer exists. Canada has fallen into corporate greed
