WE NEED SPEED BUMPS NOT BIKE LANES
Bike lanes will not increase safety within our community they are just moving the traffic to another area. (Neighbouring Streets)
As a resident of Ajax in Ward 2 and a parent to children attending Viola Desmond Public School, I am deeply concerned about the proposed installation of bike lanes on Lloydminister, Formosa and Turnerbury Avenue. This decision has been made without considering the impact it will have on our community as a whole. With these bikes lanes parking will be prohibited along both sides of the road from Lloydminister to Kerrison see drawings below for samples.
The proposed bike lanes would increase traffic congestion and grid lock around our school zones, causing a lot of families distress while trying to access the school and daycare. According to Transport Canada, traffic congestion around schools increases the risk of road accidents involving children by up to 43% (Transport Canada report).
Furthermore, these bike lanes would take away much-needed parking spaces not only for us residents and our guests, but for parents that need to access the school during drop off and pick up. Our community engagement for school initiatives will decline as residents become hesitant to attend with no street parking. The installation of these bike lanes will cause a ripple effect throughout the community, neighbouring streets along the routes will face the most challenges. For the families on Formosa and Lloydminister it’s already so tight parking will be prohibited on both side of your street after lanes are installed leaving zero space for guests.
Our community already has an accessible beautiful off road bike path that can be connected all the way from Taunton to Kingston Road.
Moreover, this decision seems rushed without proper consultation with residents who will be directly affected by this change. Parking infractions will increase significantly as community members struggle to find parking within the neighbourhood, not only for school drop off and pick up but also for our guests.
As members of this community, we deserve a say in decisions that impact us so significantly.
I strongly suggest reaching out to the Town of Ajax to voice your concerns. Armi.defrancia@ajax.ca 905-619-2529 ext 3238 is accepting feedback until February 15th. All the drawings can be found at Ajax.ca/bikesfacility2024

Let's come together as a community and urge the Town of Ajax to halt these plans until they can provide us with realistic solutions to our ongoing parking, traffic, speeding and congestion issues.
The community voice was never considered for this project. PLEASE SPEAK UP NOW!
Please share this petition today and spread awareness! Let the Town of Ajax see we don’t want bike lanes in our community!
Black lines are representing the bike lanes.
Proposed Bike Lane in red will be both sides of the street all along the red from Rossland to Kerrison. The yellow is the existing path behind Westgate
