As a resident of Wicomico county, I would much rather be able to freely enjoy this green space that was donated with the intention of being a park as a park than as a private jeep safari that resident would have to pay for access. This completely defeats the purpose of the park as it would disturb the environment in a way that is not conducive to protecting the nature there. Additionally, while I am a Jeep owner and go off-roading sometimes, I think this area would serve more people as a free public park than the much more limited subset of people that want to pay to drive off road.
I am a mom of 6 children ages 4 to 14. Each of them love Fort Findlay park for various reasons, but one thing they all agree on, they LOVE visiting this park! I think most parents would agree, we appreciate the things that bond siblings together! My oldest daughter had a very special person in her life pass away. When she heard Fort Findlay park was set for demolition, she felt heartbroken. Not only because she enjoys the park still, especially at an age where going to play at the park is becoming less “cool”, but visiting Fort Findlay has a sacred place in her heart because it’s the place where she spent a lot of time with this special loved one. Demolishing the park, to her, feels like losing a part of her happy memories with that loved one all over again. It’s a happy place that she loves to visit because of how it makes her feel close to this special person, that cannot be replaced. To her it’s more than a park. To the rest of my children, this place unlocks their imagination because of its uniqueness. They make up all kinds of games and for this mom, it’s one of the few places that they tend to bond over with little to no arguing, rivalry or bickering. It’s just fun. And they enjoy every minute they get to spend running, laughing and playing. We want to see Fort Findlay Park around for a long time because it’s the kind of park worth keeping around.
I have lived in Findlay my whole life and I have played at that park with friends, cousins, family, and now my own children! It is an important historical landmark for kids! There is so much bad in this world and this park is magical for kids. Helps kids not think about the real world, not think about all the bad thing going on in this crazy world! SAVE OUR PARK!!!!
