We have some exciting news and developments in our journey to Save Connelly Mill Park! There was an overwhelming citizen response to the recent official Wicomico Parks Survey supporting the original vision for Connelly Mill Park - and Connelly Mill is on the next Council Agenda!
Following much of our collective advocacy efforts, Councilman James Winn held a Town Hall in Hebron last March. The community consensus was clear: residents prefer moving the Program Open Space designation from West Metro Core to Connelly Mill as originally proposed in 2021. Moving this designation just makes sense. Connelly Mill Park is proposed to be left in a mostly natural state, requiring very little money to bring to fruition—whereas West Metro Core was slated to be costly and would require tens of millions of dollars to establish.
HERE IS THE BIG NEWS! After months of waiting, this topic is finally being brought forward to the County Council! On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Council will hold an Open Work Session regarding the Program Open Space Land Conversion from the West Metro Core property to the Connelly Mill Property. Steve Miller, the Director of Recreation, Parks & Tourism, will be presenting this item.
WE NEED YOU THERE! We encourage everyone to attend the meeting at 10:00 a.m. in Room 301 of the Government Office Building and speak in support of this land conversion at the Public Comment section. We are keeping our fingers crossed for a favorable outcome at this Work Session. If all goes well, the next likely step will be scheduling a formal public hearing!
We will keep you all up to date and informed as this progresses. Thank you all for everything you have done to support and protect Connelly Mill Park!
