I have lived in this area since I was a kid, and now seeing the possibility of this park ,that shares so many fond memories, getting modernized into an asphalt or non recreational area for kids is so disheartening. It’s rarer to have green spaces within neighborhoods and I’ve felt so lucky to have this peaceful little grove and playground nearby. We should be promoting it as is, instead of the city promoting these frankly shocking changes. Leave it as is, or please please maintain the green spaces. We don’t need more asphalt in this world.
Having a safe natural space encourages exploration and creativity in children that can’t be replicated in plastic and metal structures. I cherish the time I spent in that park as a kid and appreciate that my daughter and nieces and nephew have experienced the same opportunity.
Calgary, Keep our Green spaces green with grass and trees !
Over 20 years ago l moved from a busy condo complex to the community of Woodbine. Simply because the community had mature trees with green areas to walk my dog safely.
Today, my husband and l enjoy all the green spaces with groves of natural trees walking our neighbourhood with our young dog with fresh grass for him to enjoy Please keep Woodbine green with nature and grass areas !
I can't believe this! This park and greenspace means so much to my family. We've since moved out of Woodbine and still come back here for the peace and surroundings. I love this park and forest and can't imagine it changing. It's a truly magical little space and it would be a huge detriment to get rid of it.
It’s shocking to me that our “climate crisis mayor” and her friends on council have authorized this…
“It is estimated that extreme weather events caused by climate change will cost Canadian municipalities over $5 billion annually, and have big health impacts on the 80% of Canadians who live in cities. Green infrastructure can help reduce these costs and keep communities safer by absorbing excess rainfall and reducing flood risk. Green infrastructure also plays a significant role in keeping communities cooler during heat waves as cities with lots of hardened and paved areas can easily be 5-6 degrees warmer than the surrounding countryside! It can also help absorb and sequester GHG emissions.“

We have lived in the community for 13 years and exploring neighbourhood parks and greenspaces has continues to be something our family does.
This park and treed area has always been a favourite. We call fondly call it the hidden park and frequent it often. Losing the trees and greenspace would be huge loss. And as much as it would be a personal loss to
our family, I believe it would be an even bigger loss for the community. Removing the trees would change the feel of the street and would not be an improvement.
Replacing a playground with a gagaball pit, chess table, ping pong or anything else requiring equipment is just flat out stupid and uninclusive. These can be supplementary but should not be the sole plan.
A playground promotes active living, gross moto skills, imagination and collaboration. Strangers take turns on the slides or swings, they start to play together, they become friends. Kids can show up and play. Kids of all ages can play in the same space either together or apart.
Gagaball and the other table top like activities the city is proposing requires children to bring items to play. If they don't own them or don't bring them, the play area is useless. If someone else is using the space, those children are now excluded. A 5 year old and a 15 year old cannot play gagaball together, but they can play on a play structure together.
If a parent brings their one child to a play structure, they can play. If they bring their child to a gaga pit, they sit by themselves.
The consultation notes show that the majority if not all people requested swings, slides and/or play structures. The city instead is choosing the cheap way out with a gaga pit that can be made with a couple skids by a neighbour and carried into the park.
With the city claiming to be moving towards being more inclusive, we should be receiving an inclusive playground. A child in a wheelchair cannot play in the planned gagaball pit.
