Preserve Woodbine's Natural Space and Playground for Our Community

Preserve Woodbine's Natural Space and Playground for Our Community
The Issue
Nestled beside the beautiful Aspen forest, our playground on 40 Woodglen Road SW, Calgary, has been a staple for families and children in our community to connect with nature. As residents who live adjacent to this cherished space, we are alarmed by the city's plans to dismantle this natural haven and replace it with asphalt and other features that do not cater to our community's needs.
This playground offers our children a unique environment where they can play surrounded by grass and trees, building an appreciation for nature. For families like ours, this playground is more than just a space for recreation; it's a sanctuary, a community gathering spot, and a vital green space in our urban environment that fosters a sense of belonging and mental well-being.
The city's decision to proceed with these plans was made without sufficiently consulting the very community that cherishes this space. The survey's conducted were biased to the city's predetermined decision to "reimagine" the playground and area surrounding it. The shift from a naturalized area with a playground to a stark, uninviting asphalt area seems incongruous with the needs and desires of the many young families that use this place daily. We believe that this decision fails to reflect the values and priorities of the Woodbine residents.
We implore the city to reconsider and halt these plans immediately. Instead of removing this beloved playground, the community needs enhancements that align with maintaining the natural landscape and that enrich the environment and provide a space for young children and families to enjoy together and in harmony with the surroundings.
It’s essential that our voices be heard and that the character of our community is respected and maintained. We are committed to working with local officials to find a solution that truly benefits everyone.
Help us keep this natural area and playground alive for future generations by signing this petition. Together, we can ensure that Woodbine remains a vibrant and nurturing place for our children and families. Sign now to help protect our playground.
