Mark Carney presented himself as the competent steady hand, the technocrat who would deliver where others failed. That is not what Canadians are experiencing.
Start with jobs. The labour market has deteriorated sharply, with unemployment climbing toward levels not seen in years. Entire sectors have been hit, including steel and mill operations in British Columbia, costing thousands of Canadians their livelihoods. These were not abstract losses. These were families, communities, and careers, and much of this damage was avoidable with better leadership and planning.
Housing was supposed to be a priority. Build Canada Homes was framed as bold and urgent, with promises of 500,000 homes. The reality is nowhere near that pace, while affordability continues to collapse for working Canadians.
Fiscal oversight has raised serious concerns. The Parliamentary Budget Officer has warned that the current budget path is stifling growth and delivering poor value relative to the scale of spending.
There is also the issue of Carney’s past ties to Brookfield Asset Management and its offshore tax structures. These arrangements may be legal, but legality is not the same as leadership. Billions routed through tax havens are billions not supporting public services or domestic investment at a time when Canadians are being told there is no money.
Then there was the central promise that justified his leadership bid in the first place. He claimed he was the only one who could secure a deal with Donald Trump. Not only did that deal fail to materialize, but a poorly handled political advertisement involving Doug Ford, which Carney admitted he approved, directly undermined negotiations and forced a public apology. That is not statesmanship. That is basic and avoidable mismanagement.
Leadership is also about tone. When Canadians are talking about job losses, affordability, and national setbacks, constant smirking and inappropriate smiles project detachment, not confidence. They reinforce the sense that this government is insulated from the consequences ordinary people are facing.
When the Prime Minister dismissively says “who cares” in response to questions about when he last spoke with Trump, the answer is obvious. The people who care are those who lost their jobs. Families under financial strain during the Christmas holidays. Parents worried about keeping their homes. Marriages under pressure. Children watching their parents struggle with fear and uncertainty.
That is who cares.
This is not about ideology or personality. It is about competence, accountability, and the human cost of failed leadership. Canada does not need a technocratic elite managing decline. It needs leadership that delivers results and takes responsibility when promises fall short.
That is why this petition matters.
I’ve grown up around indigenous communities all my life. They are engrained in the fabric of this country and this land has always been and always will be theirs. The basis of Canada was to be a mosaic of culture for people around the world to come here and be safe and happy. Instead I am seeing fear and hatred. This is not what Canada is supposed to be, we should be looking to the future while remembering and reconciling with our past. Danielle Smith is destroying that and we as Albertans and as Canadians will not stand for it.
My father was Indigenous as well as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. He would weep if he knew Alberta is heading in this direction. His ancestors were here before the Europeans knew how to navigate to come here. They lived, walked, hunted and died here. There are treaties that have been signed and are binding. Canadas veterans fought and died in order to keep Canada whole. How dare people think that this can be broken.
Bring a woman of colour I experience discrimination on a regular basis. With this federal election that recently took place, it has brought out a lot of racist individuals. Danielle’s voice also seems to give these people a “valid” reason to discriminate more. I have even being receiving actual threats that threaten my life and my children’s because of die hard conservatives.
I also have a strong belief system in support of indigenous peoples.
I Love this country. I was born and raised here. I have never seen such trash talking about Canada and the Canadian people as I have from Mr Hoekstra. He has shown us no respect whatsoever and just sounds like Trump. We are tired of all the rhetoric and name calling and we don’t need someone in his position trying to divide us! Send him packing, he’s not doing his job
As a flight attendant who's 8 years in and still struggling to make ends meet, this was a very shady and unfair move. We have a right to have our voices heard. Put pressure on Air Canada, not us flight attendants
Our Job a a flight attendant is not just about offering a service 35,000 feet in the air. We are Inflight First Responders—the eyes and ears of the flight deck. When a passenger becomes ill or there's a medical issue on board, it's us who respond. We are trained, prepared, and ready to act in any emergency.
We provide exceptional service, no matter how tired, overwhelmed, or homesick we may feel. Even when we’re not at our best, we continue to show up and give our all.
We are just as essential as the pilots. We deserve a fair wage and working conditions.
I like to see you work for free, you should be supporting us not against us where is your compassion
We, the undersigned, are Canadian citizens, workers, and most importantly, front-line flight attendants of Air Canada. We are calling for the immediate removal of Minister Patty Hajdu from her position due to a lack of action, oversight, and care for the basic rights and well-being of aviation workers in Canada.
For over a decade, we have endured deeply unfair working conditions — locked into restrictive contracts that leave us with minimal job security, stagnant wages, and few benefits. During the COVID-19 pandemic, while most Canadians were supported through federal relief programs like CEWS, we were left behind. We continued to work on the front lines, risking our health and safety with no meaningful government protection or financial support.
Despite the sacrifices we’ve made, there has been no movement from Minister Hajdu to support fair wages, safe working conditions, or basic labour rights for flight attendants. Our concerns have been ignored. We are now being forced into yet another situation where we are expected to accept unacceptable conditions — dictated by both government inaction and corporate pressure.
This is not fair.
This is not humane.
This is not sustainable.
We deserve to be treated with dignity and respect — not as disposable workers in a broken system. Minister Hajdu has failed in her duty to protect Canadian workers and ensure just labour practices in the aviation sector. It is time for new leadership that will take our voices seriously.
We respectfully demand that Minister Patty Hajdu be removed from office, and that immediate action be taken to investigate the treatment of Air Canada flight attendants and all aviation workers across the country.
Sincerely,
Jeonga Lee
