My child is one of those without accommodation

I feel like this isnt fair because so many kids that get accepted can’t afford the housing because of pricing going up, even with the help of financial aid I still have to take out loans to afford to go.

This issue is incredibly devastating for so many people. The majority of those that I personally know that are affected rely on grants and scholarships for their housing in order to attend school here. Getting a college education is challenging to begin with, but the added stress of finding a living situation with such short notice isn’t helping. While everyone deserves housing, the majority of the upperclassmen being pushed out have been loyal and involved students that don’t deserve to be last on the priority list. Additionally, parking is a huge issue and with more and more commuters this issue will only worsen as well. The decision to allow so many incoming freshman seems poorly thought out and greedy.

This shouldn’t be a situation anyone is ever put into. The choice between paying a lot for off campus housing, getting a loan, worrying about where to go, or even dropping out due to no funds is a horrible thing to go through.

This is really horrible. My son and his roommates were not allowed to select a room even though they filled out their forms for priority housing months ago. They were informed no rooms were available anymore. Called the school and they said they would have to find off campus housing with means they won’t be allowed to use scholarships, grants, etc for them so they have to find funding elsewhere. My son doesn’t drive which is why he lives on campus, and two of his roommates live several hours away. Does the university expect these kids to magically have resources to afford over priced housing all over Tyler or choose whether or not to come back to the college they have attended for the past 2 years. Students shouldn’t be having to worry about whether or not they will be able to attend their own college next year. My son has been stressed over this for days and he shouldn’t be. He should be focusing on his test and his schooling not whether or not he will actually be able to attend next year depending on if he has a room or not. Do better UT Tyler or stop encouraging students to come to your University!

UT knew how many more students would be incoming, and knew this was going to happen months ago and said nothing. Even with “priority” I didn’t even get a chance to select a room. Whats the point of putting students in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc, time slot when you know you only have enough houses for slots 1-3. All that did was guarantee that students in the latter slots wouldn’t get a selection.

UT TYLER had several contracts with other housing properties, Grande Village for one, and multiple others which would’ve appropriately housed students and generated income for the school. What about students who don’t have anywhere to go? Those aged out of foster care, seniors close to graduating, students in the middle of a rigorous medical programs and more? Where was the consideration for them? We are tired hearing UT Tyler’s empty promises.

How is this fair?? with only THREE months to find housing or find the money. UT had months of preparation and ability to worn its students (WHO PAYS THEM). Where’s the compassion for your students “president philley”

After five years and receiving national recognition, La Ofrenda did not receive funding from HSA. I was doing surveys on Saturday and one man said, "This is one of the best food pantries, if not THE best. I hope they don't cut you guys!" Yes, unfortunately, that is exactly what HSA did. We serve 800 families every other week and have given out over 80,000 units of food since the pandemic. We have prevented hunger and poverty and it does not seem morally right to cut families at the knees. Please sign this petition to get our voices heard about this amazing program that should not go away!!!
