Spartan Delta Corp has built massive holding ponds for fracking less than a mile from my home—right across from residential acreages, ranchers, and a feedlot. They are drilling directly into our potable water aquifer to access fresh water that supports our families, livestock, and livelihoods.
Some of my neighbours have already had their wells go down. Others are finding black sludge, bacteria, and coliforms in their water—issues they’ve never had before. We’ve all had to proactively test our wells to establish baselines.
Yesterday, the AER visited my neighbour’s property to witness firsthand the impact this is having on their livestock. We all support the oilfield—it's the backbone of Alberta’s economy—but using our drinking water to cut costs is not acceptable when the price we pay could be losing our only water source. There are other options for fracking!
The process has been slippery. They’ve rejected concerns, missed proper postings, and continue pushing out applications without notifying neighbours or landowners. Ponoka County has no real control over it.
This group is here to keep everyone informed and united. The aquifer beneath us stretches far—so even if you don’t live nearby, this could affect your water, too. We are grateful to have the support of our Ponoka County Reeve, but we need your voice to gain traction and protect what matters most.
I am pro oil and gas - but the terminal use of fresh water for oil extraction is beyond ridiculous, there has to be another media that can be used to create the same affect. Disposing of one of the main elements that all life depends on and is publicly owned, in exchange for oil production for primarily private corporations is absurd.
My kids do not consistently have access to swimming facilities all year long. Swimming is a skill that should be learned for all, not just for leisure, but for mental health and for their future!
Would love to see a pool here! It’s crazy that we are surrounded by lakes yet we have to drive up to 2 hours for our children to be taught how to swim by a certified instructor!
People in 100 Mile DO want and need a pool. If the vote included the outlying areas, it would be obvious to everyone. No one is asking the small community to absorb the cost. We are asking for the people who will use it to have a say! This reaches farther than a pool… taxation without representation! The outlying areas pay for libraries and schools and hockey rinks, why not a pool they really want!?
We need this pool!! I had a total knee replacement last year and it would have been wonderful to have a pool to help with the excersise.Who can afford to go to William's Lake all the time!! It's time Hundred Mile!! I would go all the time for water aerobics!
I grew up in 100 Mile House and oh how my siblings, friends and I all wished that 100 Mile had a pool as there is nothing for families and children to do recreational wise. Only allowing teens of the town to then get bored and get into town mischief. So yes, even though I may not live in 100 Mile anymore ( still have relatives there) I will more than happily sign this petition.
It's undeniable that town and outlying population is growing. I live in Forest Grove and would happily pay more in taxes if we had a local pool for my children to enjoy without needing to travel an hour. Lakes aren't year round and also not suitable for everyone.
