Tell Ptbo City Council that you want to save 1 BILLION dollars!

The Issue

Next Monday, Peterborough City Council will consider adopting the Peterborough Climate Change Action Plan update (PCCAP) that will, if adopted and implemented, save Peterborough $1 billion over the next 25 years with its savings in building energy costs, electrification of the transportation sector and more.  They will adopt the plan if they know it is important to their constituents.  Grade 11 and 12 students from last semester's Youth Leadership in Sustainability (YLS) class are urging you to consider adding your voice to the call for Climate Action in Peterborough - sign their petition and call or email your councilor directly to ask them to adopt the new Plan.

The new PCCAP update includes the financial costs and greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions of all the proposed climate solutions so city staff and council can prioritize program delivery. If implemented, the new plan would help fund retrofits for residential and commercial building energy efficiency updates, would promote a more efficient building code, and would help electrify the city’s commercial use vehicles for example.

Through the Climate Action Plan update, the YLS class sees much opportunity for the City to not only reduce Greenhouse Gasses locally, but to “join thousands of other Cities around the world who are working towards a more secure future” (YLS student Finn Sutcliffe Dummitt). The class is urging citizens to also watch its video How Peterborough can Save 1 Billion Dollars that was shot in the city and highlights 3 components of the Plan’s GHG reduction strategy.

There are many other political distractions right now, but the climate continues to warm and our window for action to keep the planet livable is closing. Raise your voice to support this fantastic local opportunity!
