The Issue

I write this as the boyfriend of a three-time survivor of domestic violence. Her terrorizing experiences have been amplified by the legal system that failed her not once, but on multiple occasions. When she called for help, law enforcement never made an arrest. On the single occasion they did, the local district attorney chose not to prosecute, allowing the assaulter out on a non-financial online recognizance bond. It shouldn't take two days or more to issue an arrest warrant for such a serious crime as domestic violence.

The problems my partner faced are not isolated incidents. Current laws pertaining to domestic violence in Georgia – and across our country – are clearly inadequate. They do not prioritize survivors or deter perpetrators. A dramatic change is necessary to protect innocent victims and drastically reduce domestic violence incidents, which currently affect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men across the United States (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence).

Starting right here in Georgia, I'm asking for crucial amendments to be made. First, we must implement mandatory arrests when domestic violence calls are made to law enforcement. Second, for arrested offenders, remove the possibility of release on bond. Third, the judicial system should severely limit granting probation to perpetrators, increasing minimum sentencing to at least 5 years with no provision for time off for good behavior. And also asking for the abuser to serve 80-85 percent of their sentence

It is our obligation to ensure that no more innocent lives – particularly children and those working in law enforcement – fall victim to domestic violence. Join us in our fight for justice and redemption for everyone affected by this pervasive issue by signing this petition. Comprehensive legislation and robust enforcement can transform lives in Georgia  and ultimately, throughout the country. Time is of the essence – the change must begin now.

IN 2024 in the state of Georgia THERE WAS 39,000 CASES OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HOWEVER ONLY 13,151 OF THAT NUMBER WAS ONLY ARRESTED MEANING OVER 20,000 plus ABUSER'S WAS NEVER ARRESTED OR PUT AWAY THIS HAS TO STOP

I'm asking law-makers to

  1. Making ga  a  mandatory arrest state for these abusers  no more giving out warnings or tickets make it where they have to be arrested like 24 other states have in place
  2. Make charges of domestic violence a non bondable offense did you know in the state of Georgia that a person can get out of jail on nothing more but their signature or the bond is so low they can easily make bail
  3. And asking lawmakers to make it to where there are no more probation handed out make it to where they have to serve a actual prison sentence I'm asking lawmakers to make it at least a 5-year sentence even for a first time offense
  4. And making that law to where they have to serve the entire 5-year sentence no more getting out early for good behavior
  5. Making it included in this law that anybody who is convicted and charged or even arrested for domestic violence that they cannot get custody of their kids or seek any type of visitation
  6. While I am a proud Republican and I support the right to bear arms I'm asking lawmakers to revoke that right for anybody convicted of domestic violence
  7. And most importantly I'm asking lawmakers to start a domestic violence registry for convicted domestic violence abusers just like we currently have for sex offenders we have something like that but it is only viewable by law enforcement personnel or district attorneys I'm asking this to be made public so that future victims or probably victim can go on that registry and look up anybody who has been charged with domestic violence
  8. make all domestic violence charges a felony

9 there needs to be more funding to help victims escape. From their abuser

10 there needs to be a law also in place to allow victims of domestic violence to be able to change their name and social security number along with their children's name and social security number  to keep themselves and their children safe from their abuser

11--also asking lawmakers to make it mandatory  that law enforcement to take regular yearly classes and training to recognize what actual domestic violence victims look like and to recognize the signs of what domestic violence is

12--I am also asking lawmakers I am also asking lawmakers to pass the Gabby petito  law

Like multiple states have already passed

13- allow victims of domestic violence when they are filing for divorce and filing for child custody to allow all evidence related to domestic violence to be admissible in those proceedings of divorce and also related to child custody in Superior Court as well as family court right now that is not allowed and it should be to protect the children

Thank  you
