9.25.23 Update: CEO Steve Farley refuses proof of life for 250 missing animals.  Speculation remains that rabbits, hamsters, rats, mice and guinea pigs may have been transferred to an exotic reptile business to be used or sold as feeders for snakes/reptiles. Chief Programs Officer at HSSA who owns a Python snake breeding business and is active in the reptile rescue community was entrusted with over 300 prey animals that were driven to a “private rescue” in the middle of the night.  (Conflict of Interest) The animals remain hidden and unaccounted for by Farley.

ORIGINAL PETITION
The San Diego Humane Society appears to have unethically stacked over 300 small animals into a moving van and shipped them off to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona where they are now unaccounted for.  We the petitioners respectfully request Steve Farley (HSSA CEO) make the Intake Records, Intake Videos and Intake Photos Public to prove the animals arrived and are alive.  Further, we request credible proof the (hidden) animals are in a safe rescue.

On August 7, 2023 the San Diego Humane Society transported 318 rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, and hamsters to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona in Tucson.  According to HSSA, upon arrival 317 of 318 of the animals were immediately transferred to a "private group" that claims to have found homes for approximately 250 in two weeks time.  It appears neither organization would provide requested documentary evidence the animals are safe.

Local rescue groups of both states have high concerns the animals were adopted into homes in such a short period of time.  An animal advocate group is offering $1,500 reward for information on "missing" HSSA pets.

It happens too often, we see Humane Societies take in large amounts of rabbits and they are magically altered and placed in a few weeks.  These same shelters, according to their taxes, take in millions of dollars but in turn are not held accountable and are not transparent with large intakes of small animals.  We have seen multiple rabbits given out for free/unaltered after claiming to be rescued which sadly places the rabbits in a worse fate being used as breeding animals, labs animals, to animal abusers, live food for snakes or live bait for dog fighting.

We have seen evidence of rabbits confiscated by authorities then sent to farms or exotic owners after the Humane Societies claim to be heroes rescuing the animals and finding them safe loving homes.  Practices unacceptable and unethical under the guise of a animal shelter, but the injustice continues with no accountability. 

Where are the 318 transferred animals?
We the petitioners respectfully demand verifiable proof that the rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, and hamsters from SDHS arrived alive at HSSA and in fact are in a "safe rescue setting" getting the proper housing, food and vet care needed.  We also ask for verifiable proof of adoptions.
