Humane Society of Southern Arizona - Christian Gonzalez/Farley, intentionally, knowingly and recklessly put over 318 animals in direct danger when they breached shelter protocol by sending small prey animals to reptile breeders who sell and use small prey animals as live and frozen food.
Arizona Animal Cruelty Laws 13-2910
A. A person commits cruelty to animals if the person does any of the following:
9. Intentionally or knowingly subjects any animal to cruel mistreatment.
14. Intentionally or knowingly subjects a domestic animal to cruel mistreatment.
4. Recklessly subjects any animal to cruel mistreatment.
BOD Robert Garcia’s statement indicates the board of HSSA care more about the well-being of their reputation than the well-being of the animals still missing. Garcia’s plans did not include if the search for the large amount of missing animals would continue and he showed no empathy for the missing animals or urgency to find them. In fact, his statement is inconsistent regarding his knowledge about the missing animals.
It has also come to light this is not the first time rabbits have been sent to Colten Jones/ owners of the Fertile Turtle/ Python breeding business who raise and sell small animals for live and frozen food. According to HSSA databank, HSSA sent 8 rabbits to C. Jones and listed him under a fake rescue name: Tortoise/Bird Rescue (See update photo)
Robert Garcia, what is the fate of the 8 rabbits? Why are 256 missing animals not your first priority?
Firing Farley and letting Gonzalez resign may be a good start but animal cruelty charges are in order and you are responsible to pursue them.
The adoptable healthy shelter animals were directly transferred upon arrival by CPO Christian Gonzalez to known reptile owners and no one at HSSA is forthcoming about what Colten Jones did with the animals, the public has also been defrauded with lies/donations.
We the petitioners demand justice for the missing animals.
