As a parent of a female athlete lifter I believe all rules should be followed and the organizers and coaches that have broken the rules should be honest enough to say they weren’t. We are setting examples for this amazing young women everyday and honesty and owning up to mistakes should be easy enough as a role model. Do the right thing
Yes, I am a Coach @ a 6A High School. During our competition, one of my top contenders in the State squatted low enough 2 times with 2 reds & 1 green by same judges. Both times they were “below parallel”. Finally we put butt to ground, and of course, she still didn’t get it… and she got the other 2 lifts easily. I tried to talk to the Regional Directors, and had video proof, but was told it is what it is. There has to be a system in place to be able to dispute and/ or overturn bias judge decisions. I think we should be UIL sanctioned. There is too much corruption and dishonesty, and it is too easy to get away with cheating.
My daughter is one of the powerlifters for Denison high school and she did amazing but the high school in question did not abide by the rules set they have weigh in with everybody else and they have to answer for actions the girls on the Denison high school team don’t deserve this and neither does the other teams that where affected by this scandal and action does need to be taken against the coaches and give the correct state championship to the rightful team that followed the rules plan and simple I am not just talking about Denison high school women’s powerlifting team this is for every team that was affected by this cheating scandal
Unfair decision made at THSWPA against rule book. All athletes should be at appointed weigh ins for ALL meets including Regional and State Powerlifting Meets. Just because you have a conflict due to other sports does not make your team opposed to following the rules. If we have to find a way by flying from a spring break vacation or drive 12+ hours to make weigh ins then you should hold your team accountable and they miss the other conflict (track meet). Especially if you’re close. These athletes should not of been able to participate in the state meet and earn metals after not weighing in. You can not send in “home weigh ins” due to conflict of schedules. Be fair!!! Let’s do right THSWPA. Doesn’t matter that you (director) and the coach are related. Doesn’t give you the right to make up your own rules and not follow the guidelines. Texas make powerlifting a UIL Sanctioned Sport! This program is growing so fast.
It seems like more often than not kids are on the go 24/7. Every child needs down time and family time just as much as we adults do to recharge and maintain healthy relationships. I say NO to any school/ sports related functions on Sundays!
Coach Pete impacted so many lives that will last forever in the Whittier community. He was more than just a basketball coach—he was a father figure and mentor to so many of us. Coach Pete IS Whittier, and he deserves all the love and support that's coming his way.
Coach Pete is the reason I am a high school girls coach today. He helped me find my passion and love for the game as a coach as well as a former player. I am grateful to have had him in my corner and an important influence in my life 💙
My oldest son played for Coach Pete for a few years. I got to know Coach and thoroughly enjoyed our conversations. He allowed my younger son to practice with the team, and now is thriving in NJB on a team that Coach Pete recommended him for. He plays all stars and BYT and it all traces back to Coach Pete. He was a very special man. I really miss him. He is more than deserving of a memorial to remember him for a long time.
Selling the Bill Evans Baseball Field should not be an either or proposition. The city can find alternative ways to build new parks, recreational facilities and venues without selling of its existing ones.
Selling the Bill Evans baseball field and the practice field diminishes public green space and its losing an athletic field in a marginalized South Fulton County area. The cities and municipalities in North Fulton County are rich with greenspace, parks, and recreational facilities. This public athletic complex is one of a few in South Fulton County that has a baseball field, track, football field, basketball court, practice field and playground. I use the track adjacent to the baseball field on a regular basis. Hundreds of citizens from the surrounding area use the track and practice field on a daily basis. Selling off this baseball field and the practice field strips this community of a thriving athletic complex and we are left with no other options.
The city is being undersold by the sale of this baseball field. It costs multi-millions of dollars and years to develop and build new parks, recreational facilities, and venues. The the hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue from the sale of this baseball field is not adequate compensation for the true value of this property and nor is it enough funding to develop and build new parks, recreational facilities, and venues.
This city lacks the resources and infrastructure to successfully develop and build new projects. Where will the money come from to fund these new proposed projects? If there is not enough money to complete these proposed projects then they simply won't get built. For example, the Airport City/6 West Project has been stalled for decades for a myriad of reasons. Rather than sell the Bill Evans Baseball field and the adjacent adjacent practice field, the the city should revitalize the space, and create revenue by leasing it out to athletic leagues. But by selling it, the city and its citizens will lose a viable asset.
Overall, this sale makes no economic sense and citizens lose out in the
