During my time working at BCF, I personally witnessed the overwhelming issue of excessive plastic waste. As I unpackaged YETI bottles and various other products, I was struck by the sheer volume of plastic used in packaging—it was truly alarming. The environmental impact of this unnecessary waste became painfully evident, and seeing it firsthand only reinforced my concern about the scale of the problem. So when I came across this petition, I knew I had to take action. The issue of plastic pollution is too significant to ignore, and supporting initiatives that push for change is crucial. By signing this petition, I hope to contribute to a movement that advocates for more sustainable practices and a reduction in plastic waste.

Two years ago while they were spraying along the rear of boardwalk place I spoke to one of the operators in a hazmat suit to discuss the chemicals being used. He told me they were using glyphosate (the chemical from roundup). I found this to be quite alarming considering most countries have banned or heavily restricted the same substance. MVCC sprays this into the community from massive drones, also considering the peregrine falcon that nests in the same cliff face every year you would think there would be a better alternative.

I strongly oppose the development of Talbot Quarry to become a residential area. As many people have mentioned how may it be harmful to human beings if the contaminated land is going to be developed. I guess I don’t have to repeat them again. My main concern is the health hazard that may occur. Can the state government guarantee the development will be 100% safe to the future residents and the neighbourhood? I believe the government is responsible to Australians and it won’t take any risk to harm people’s health. Plastic bags claimed to be safe to use in microwave and freezer were discovered not safe recently. This scared a lot of people as many of us have been using them for a long time without knowing it is harmful. We wouldn’t know its harmful consequences to our health and feeling helpless about this. Will the toxic hazard in this contaminated landfill affect our health in years or decades. It is an irreversible disaster if it happens. Any compensation will be meaningless if one loses his/ her health or even life. So I hope the Australia government will put people’s health on the first place and make a responsible decision.

I am strongly opposed to the proposed development in the quarry due to its potential negative impact on our local environment and community. This area is not only a vital habitat for various wildlife species but also could serve as a recreational space for residents seeking nature and tranquility. The construction activities would likely lead to habitat destruction, increased pollution, and a significant alteration of the landscape. Preserving the quarry is essential for maintaining biodiversity and ensuring that future generations can hopefully enjoy this as natural beauty and recreational space. Therefore, I urge decision-makers to reconsider this development and prioritize the protection of our local environment.

I strongly oppose the proposed housing development on Talbot Quarry due to its significant and far-reaching consequences for our community. This development poses a serious environmental threat to the surrounding ecosystems and green spaces, which are already under pressure from urban expansion. Additionally, increased traffic will create safety risks, more congestion, and noise pollution in our residential areas. The added population pressure will strain already overburdened local schools, hospitals, and essential infrastructure, diminishing the quality of life for current residents. Sustainable and community-focused planning must take precedence over corporate development interests. Local residents were also assured when the quarry closed that it would never be developed for housing due to the environmental hazards and the impact on local residents . The site should be backfilled and turned into parkland… but the council would have to pay for the maintenance, of course they would rather fill it to the brim with appartments and squashed together townhouses to collect as much money from rates as possible. It’s very disappointing that this project is even being considered by Monash Council. I thought they cared about the environment and the welfare of their residents, but I suppose money is more important to them.

All of this pollution and sewage being poured into our oceanic environment sickens me and hardens my heart to hear how much of that sewage and pollution is even going into the sea creature's bodies without them actually realizing it's poisoning them. I know and you know that you want your water to be safe for anything whether it's drinking for your thirst, washing dishes, washing your hands, taking baths or showers, swimming pools, but there's so many other uses of water but I don't need a full-on list to tell you how essential water can truly be.

I have been taking action against the power stations and ash dams for fifteen years after I heard of two pre-school kids having brain cancer at Chain Valley Bay and only weeks later I too was diagnosed with three separate stage 4 cancers and four years after 61 immunotherapy treatments still hanging in. Small passive protest on side of road each Tuesday Morning at Doyalson (opposite the fire brigade. Bring your chair and coffee,

It would be good to be able to comment on the petition itself. Its not just about banning corflutes, its about limiting the election bombardment at polling booths, limited but equitable signage options, 1 or 2 people from each party maximum along the entry paths. Then in the community ensure that councils provide a dedicated space in each town where all parties are allowed a specific amount of advertising, a single corflute, some A4 information pages. Get the big donations out of politics and ensure all.parties have the option to advertise.
