When I woke up this morning, the first thing I saw out the window was a woman walking her dog. She slipped and fell on the ice, letting go of the leash, and the dog got about ten houses down before a bystander managed to catch up to the dog. On his way to hand her the leash, he slid on the ice twice. The roads and sidewalks are still too icy to force students and staff to go to school/work.
It’s too cold for kids to walk even to the bus station, and all the sidewalks are frozen making it very dangerous for people to walk. Today I saw 3 people fall because of the ice
7 hours.
The numbers flashed on the hospital monitor. The machine beeped constantly, further adding to the dread we felt.
7 hours. That’s all my brother had left. Little did I know, this morning, that we would be in this situation, but that’s what happens when you go driving in the snow.
My brother went on a leisure drive this morning because he saw that school was not cancelled and assumed the roads were fine, however, to his shock, they were not. It was tragic, horrible, atrocious, a true calamity. The wreck showed signs of death and despair.
Ali Khalifa, age 16 had 7 hours to live. He was driving on Fairfax when he slid off the road, hitting 4 children. A true tragedy that will hurt my family for years.
I look at the hospital monitor now, knowing we only have 6 hours and 58 minutes to share, disappointed. Hurt—by APS.
