The Issue

As an avid skater who frequents Wackford Skatepark in Elk Grove, I've witnessed firsthand the potential dangers of skating in low-light conditions. It's a place where many of us gather to practice, socialize, and hone our skills, but as the sun sets, the skatepark becomes enveloped in shadows. This isn't just a minor inconvenience; it's a significant safety hazard.

When skating in dimly lit areas, the risk of injury increases exponentially. Uneven surfaces, obstacles, and other skaters become much harder to see, and the chances of accidents happening rise. Many skaters, including young children and beginners, visit the park during evening hours because of school and work commitments during the day. When essential infrastructure like lighting fails to meet the needs of the community, it undermines the safety and enjoyment of those who use it.

Wackford Skatepark is a valuable community asset, fostering active lifestyles and providing a positive outlet for youth. However, it requires proper maintenance to remain safe and accessible. Upgraded lighting would significantly reduce the risk of accidents and ensure that everyone who visits can do so with peace of mind.

City councils and local authorities must prioritize the safety of public spaces like Wackford Skatepark. By allocating funds to repair and upgrade the park's lighting, we can protect countless skaters from potential harm and allow them to enjoy the park without worry. Let's make this change happen!

Please sign this petition to urge the Elk Grove City Council to fix and improve the lighting at Wackford Skatepark, ensuring a safer place for everyone to skate.
