Technology matters right now due to its rapid evolution driven by artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and biotechnology, which reshape industries and societies. Key stakes include data privacy risks, job displacement from automation, and ethical challenges in AI decision-making. It affects individuals through personalized services, businesses via competitive efficiencies, governments in cybersecurity and regulation, and global populations in access to education and healthcare.

People take action on technology issues by starting online petitions to address concerns like data privacy breaches or AI biases. They mobilize supporters through social media sharing and community forums to build public pressure. Decision makers in government and industry respond to these campaigns, sometimes leading to policy changes or corporate adjustments. Offline events and media coverage amplify these efforts to reach broader audiences.
This feels like a law that was made without actually considering whether it would help students or not. We’ve been begging for resources and support for years, and instead were met with a phone ban. You can’t repeatedly ask students want they need, blatantly ignore them, and then think your solution will solve everything.
I use music to help me focus, without it I always have bad and stressful days . Also I've had situations where I was stranded in a bathroom where if I didn't have my phone I would have been stuck. I also have severe anxiety and depression so having something to calm me or being able to text friends after a test is always helpful. So I think that the phone ban will do more harm than good.
Hi there! I’m Madison, and I’m a senior, a daughter, a student, and a young woman navigating a world that often feels a bit unsafe. When Alabama implemented the FOCUS Act and banned phones in schools, I didn't feel more focused; I actually felt more vulnerable. As a girl, I already tend to be more cautious and aware of my surroundings. Now, I’m expected to go through my school day without the one thing that provided me comfort, connection, and a sense of safety.
My phone is my link to my paralyzed mom, helps calm my anxiety, and lets me reach out to my family or call for help if I ever need it. It’s not just about losing a device; it’s about losing our peace of mind. We’re not looking to scroll through TikTok during class; we just want to feel seen, heard, and protected. Thanks for understanding!
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, even the tamest most non-pornographic image or text I post is taken with great offense by homophobic and transphobic people who want to eradicate the presence of Queer people online. The mere existence of a Pride flag let alone Pride colors in any art or clothing causes such bigots it treat it as the same thing as pornography. My community has routinely been unjustly targeted by bigots, who often use porn bans as a means to justify the banning as non-pornographic content. As a result, I am heavily oppossed to any and all banning of sexual content, because banning sexual content never stops there, it always include non-sexual things. As such the fight to protect peoples' right to sexual expression is vital for protecting my right to exist.
