I have lived in Weston for 72 years. During that time, I felt Western Arena was a central community gathering place. The free Saturday afternoon skates was where I learned how to skate. My grandchildren are now learning those same things along with ex experiencing the game of hockey for the first time. It is largely because we have an arena that is part of our community. Let us hope that it will continue to be that important and gathering place for our youth.
Weston Lions Arena is a historic part of our neighborhood. It is the only place for our children and youth to learn how to skate and play hockey in the area.
MLSE can surely find vacant space to build their Launchpad. Crossroads Plaza has an abundance of vacant store space that can be transformed into their vision. Please look into relocating this development! Let the kids play hockey!!
We absolutely WANT MLSE in the neighbourhood and love and support the vision of the Launchpad, however historically Weston arena is an important part of the community fabric. The arena is vital to the community and it is a beautiful piece of our history. We ask that you consider the importance of this beautiful arena, the joy it has brought the community and are thoughtful about how you design the space, to not take away from the community but instead enhance it.
I remember driving my nephew to practice and games at the arena during the 70s. He was so excited to be a member of a local team.
Lessons learn and friendships have lasted a lifetime.
Hockey in Weston is an integral part of our community. Of which everyone deserves an opportunity to play our Canadian Game.
We truly believe that Tri-City Volleyball Club deserves to be part of the OVA. This team isn’t just about volleyball. It’s about passion, commitment, and building a strong, positive community around youth development. The athletes work incredibly hard, show up with heart every single day, and genuinely love the game. You can feel the energy and team spirit every time they step on the court.
The coaches go above and beyond, not just to train talented players, but to help shape respectful, confident, and driven young people. The parents and supporters are always there, cheering each other on like family. It’s a club that leads with values, not just skills, and that’s what makes it so special.
Being part of the OVA would give Tri-City the recognition and opportunities they’ve earned. They’re ready to compete, grow, and represent everything the OVA stands for; teamwork, excellence, and sportsmanship. Please consider this incredible team for affiliation. They have what it takes, and more importantly, they have the heart.
Let’s give them the chance to shine where they truly belong, as proud members of the OVA.
Girls in sport is so important and there are soooo many girls wanting to play volleyball and just not enough availbale spots to accomodate all of them. Adding another OVA club to our area would be incredible for our young people.
Spaces like Millennium Park's skate park are one of many that represent the real character and fabric of the city. These spaces should be showcased to the world during times like the Stampede, not trampled all over.
The initial City of Calgary engagement went out in March, they repeatedly reinforced that this 10 year deal with Cowboys would not impact existing facilities, like the skatepark. They said anything needing temporarily closed was just to build the initial infrastructure. THEN after engagement, Cowboys has decided they will need to close the most used parts of the park (accessible to all ability riders) from June 11-July 30th and remove rails (that they "will" put back) How does this not impact public access for 2 full months of our already short summer months?
