My daughter started here in kinder we left her second grade year due to moving and she loved this school as she did all the teachers and especially Mrs Bean she created such a fantastic atmosphere for my child to feel welcomed and I truly appreciate the staff and Mrs bean making her first couple years the best we had to start off school with !
Stonegate has been praised for setting the standard in the district. For the last two years we have had the District Teacher of the Year and have always been striving for greatness with the leadership and community efforts of Talana Bean. I love HEBISD, but taking away our leader that has heard the teachers, helped set standards, built our community, and cultivated a staff environment unlike anywhere else at our school is unacceptable. If you want change at the other school(s), then have her mentor them, but do not take her away from HER school that she had poured her blood, sweat, and tears into for the last ten years.
As a former teacher that started under Talana at Stonegate Elementary, I have seen the impact Talana has had not only in the school with the students and teachers, but in the community as well. The difference she ALONE has made has been life changing for the families of Stonegate. Not only has she turned around the school to be in the TOP category of schools in the district, she has changed the lives of families, of students, and every teacher that has walked through the halls of Stonegate. It is rare to have a principal that puts forth as much dedication into this job as she has, because as we all know, it’s not just a job. Her effort reaches beyond the halls. It reaches into the lives of every student and parent and teacher. The only reason I wanted to stay a teacher in HEBISD is because of her, and the environment she created for us everyday. It is unparalleled. To take her away from a now thriving school and student population such as Stonegate that NEEDS her voice and dedication would be a mistake. The community of Stonegate needs Talana Bean.
I asked for help and tried to advocate for myself. I questioned authority in trying to help make the system better, and she kicked me out of school.
Students are taught to stand up for themselves, but are we not supposed to against unjust systems that are setting us up for failure?
The school system needs to do better.
My son is a freshman and had a great deal of anxiety at Senior. He has had an individual learning plan since 7th grade for this. They did nothing to support his learning. They wouldn’t work with me or provide options or anything. They also wouldn’t honor his learning plan. Then 2 months ago I got an email saying he was being unenrolled. That’s all it said, not other info at all. All of this unenrolling students is a direct violation of Montana laws. Everyone at that school in leadership positions need terminated and staff who actually care need to be brought in. It’s a travesty what they are doing to our kids.
These kids and their mental health seems to be no concern to her. Her expectations are to high and she does not seem to care one bit that some of these kids give it their all each and every day and still struggle. If she notices she sure doesn’t seem to care. Some kids struggle to even show up to school. My child was one of them. Shelli voices her thoughts every morning over the intercom. My child feels the daily words spoke each morning by Shelli Strouf are negative high expectations and it really bothers my child.
