AP testing normally takes place in the third floor conference center. Today, it took place in the first floor. The restrooms near the cafeteria are currently being worked on while the restrooms near the gym were open to testers only. With classes still going on in the first floor along the cafeteria still hosting lunch, students eating are redirected to go to the second floor. To those closer to the second floor restrooms near theater, those were locked without warning as well.
We, the students, are tired of dealing with the admins closing the restrooms whenever they feel like it with no warning. By trying to punish drug users, they end up punishing innocent students instead. A drug user doesn't mind walking the extra two minutes to vape. A student who really needs to use the restroom does.
This is what we want:
- An announcement of restrooms that will be closed
- A VALID reason they are closed
- A timeline for when they will open
We are not asking for much. We are asking for transparency and accountability from the administrative team which earns between $80k and $120k. Our admins are supposed to care about the well-being of all students enrolled at our school, but it doesn't feel like it.
Instead, our principal cares more about getting a bonus from TSI scores.
At Nimitz High School, students can get senior outs if they get high enough TSI, SAT, OR ACT scores. At Singley, you can only get a senior out if you pass both sections of the TSI.
If you are going out-of-state, applying to a private college, or want to get higher merit scholarships, the SAT and ACT are much more important as you don't get additional scholarship money by passing TSI, nor will private or out-of-state colleges care. Additionally, if you get high enough SAT or ACT scores, a TSI failure is exempt by in-state colleges. Our principal constantly makes students retake the TSI until they pass even if they already met an exemption through their SAT or ACT scores.
