Parks are essential public spaces that provide recreation, relaxation, and natural beauty for communities worldwide. Recent trends show a growing concern for preserving and expanding green spaces, especially in urban areas facing rapid development and environmental challenges. Petitions regarding parks cover a range of issues, from protecting endangered species in park habitats to advocating for more accessible and inclusive recreational facilities for individuals with disabilities.
Notable petitions include a call to halt the construction of a commercial development in a park, emphasizing the importance of preserving the natural landscape for future generations. Another petition focuses on improving park infrastructure to accommodate diverse recreational needs, highlighting the need for inclusive spaces that cater to all community members.

I visit Joe Creason multiple times a week, these proposed parking changes are excessive. This paid facility should partner with the Zoo's existing large amount of parking if needed- the free public soccer field and meadow area are frequently used. I'm not opposed to changes, but this doesn't take into account the public value it removes from the park, as well as the unnecessary removal of precious green space.
Destroying even more of the city's green space and trees, when we already desperately need more tree cover than we have, would be catastrophic. The local neighborhood would be devastated by this change, from daily runners, regular children's soccer games, and other community events that would no longer have anywhere to go.
On a recent cross-country trip, we intentionally added an overnight stay in Louisville so we could attend the (free, weekly) parkrun in Joe Creason Park. This represents tourist dollars spent in your city - which we would not be able to do again if your plan goes through. While there, we saw the massive unused parking lot at the Zoo. Why would you remove green space (which provides much needed ecosystem services for your city in addition to meeting recreation needs) in favor of another parking lot?
I've come to this park for years. Every year there is a nesting pair of great horned owls here and this construction would destroy their territory. Please do not hurt the environment any further.
I go to this park frequently, living previously in the germantown area and now in the newburg area. It doesn’t need any more parking. Between the available lots there is plenty! The proposed lot space is often used to host picnics, play soccer, or just run around with your kids in.
I am all for growth and change in a positive direction for our city. I also believe parks should be designed to serve the many, not the few.
My family has used this park regularly for almost a decade. In that time, we’ve seen the space adjacent to the tennis courts used for many purposes: playing soccer, running/walking, reading, throwing frisbee, bike riding, picnics, theatre performances, quiet moments of relaxation, and more. My son took his first steps on the grassy lawn that is now proposed to become pavement.
This is a peaceful space that flexes for many needs, so that a wide variety of people can enjoy the park. If this were to become a tennis/pickleball complex, it would severely narrow who gets to use the space. In fact, it would also omit people who cannot afford to participate in tennis or pickleball, creating another space of wealth divide in our city. There are so few spaces where people can gather and enjoy for free… so few greenspaces in our city (note how we struggle with being a concrete heat jungle downtown)… that we must preserve what we have.
I urge you to please build this complex elsewhere in the city, where it will not remove an incredible park that is highly appreciated and valued by so many people in our city.
Please, please, please do not do this to that wonderful park. There are pickleball and tennis courts available all over. Traffic around there can be horrendous already. I’ve been a pickleball player for 11 years. I guarantee you the noise will disrupt the natural wildlife ecosystem. Let Bellarmine donate some land on their campus for this project. Developing in this park will be detrimental in many ways. Please do not proceed.
I live nearby and use this park weekly. This is such an asset and jewel of the neighborhood. Every time I’m there I see so many diverse people enjoying the nature and solitude of the open green space. I’ve discovered birds there that I’d never seen before. I love that the tennis courts are on the “upper part” and I support some renovations there — but not at the expense of the beauty and quiet in the rest of the park, which truly makes it special.
I have been coming to Joe Creason since the age of 14 to run, walk, and explore. I am 28 now and travel 15 minutes at least once a week to spend time at this beloved park. Say no to public taxation for pricey for-profit ventures on public land. This space must stay accessible for the impoverished and working class.
I use this park regularly as my daily training runs and also participate in multiple 5k Parkruns there on Saturday. It would be a shame to lose the green space to a parking lot.
