Parking enforcement is a crucial issue in urban areas, where limited parking spaces often lead to disputes and violations. Recent trends show an increase in petitions calling for fairer parking regulations and more accessible options for commuters. Key issues include challenging hefty fines, advocating for free or affordable parking, and addressing accessibility for people with disabilities.
Notable petitions include one challenging exorbitant parking fines that disproportionately affect low-income individuals and another pressing for more accessible parking options for disabled individuals. These petitions have gained significant traction, highlighting the widespread impact of parking regulations on various communities.

I resided on Ramsgate Avenue for one year and experienced ongoing parking challenges throughout the entire duration of my stay. During that time, I received multiple parking citations and was towed on one occasion due to the lack of available parking near my residence. Given the area’s safety concerns and since I am a 25 year old female, I did not feel comfortable walking long distances alone at night to reach my home. So glad this is getting recognition.
Birkdale Village is a part of my immediate community. There is so much I love about it too, including many of the positive improvements made in recent years. That being said, we are not in need of any more 'improvements' at present, except for some additional parking. And yes, I agree with others - keep the same style of architecture - even in parking additions. Barnes & Noble is a much needed part of our community - it is the best bookstore in Huntersville! There are other locations available for office buildings and hotels - but not in this charming 'village'. There is actually a lovely full-feature hotel nearby that could possibly offer a quick shuttle to The Village for their guests (Residence Inn Charlotte Lake Norman, which includes space for families). If the new owners want to serve our community, I would encourage them to think of our needs. We want a peaceful and beautiful place to come and visit with our friends and families. We want safety for everyone too. Friendly suggestion: encourage pedestrians to cross in convenient and marked crosswalks for their safety. Please protect Birkdale Village for the joy of living in this area and for the charm that it adds to our living here. Thank you for listening to my thoughts.
Unfortunately Birkdale has changed! And not for the better! A place that I enjoyed shopping at, is no longer. All the shops that so many of us shopped in are gone! And they want to take more away! Lack of parking is such an issue with visitors to Birkdale and also to the employees! Security also an issue! They have taken away what so many used to enjoy and ruined it! The traffic is bad enough through Birkdale and now they want a hotel! Who does this benefit? Even my 10 year old Granddaughter doesn’t like the so called “New Birkdale! Who really are you trying to appeal to? I am speaking for so many who feel the same!
The problematic traffic/ lack of parking situation has almost become a huge deterrent to supporting this wonderful retail mall!!! More “building” will exacerbate an already undesirable parking situation!!
Birkdale Village has been a vibrant small community of residents, shops. and entertainment opportunities to serve all of LKN. I was just in the Barnes & Noble before Christmas, and the entire shopping center was bustling with moviegoers,
shoppers, and browsers. There is not
enough parking now nor street access to support businesses at busy times. I am certain there are places to build that would not further disrupt the character of what Birkdale has been.
