I am the granddaughter of chief Netawatwees, chief William Anderson, Chief John Anderson, and saint Tamenund. Due to the injustice that was done to my family I do not have the luxury of knowing my people and family since we were all seperated and killed many years ago after being forced from our land. After taking my ancestors land and family away the least the state can do is give my people the recognition we deserve. I am not yet a tribal member due to the many steps I have to take to become one as far as getting all my documents and being a single mother but hope one day I will be allowed to enroll in my tribe and be recognized with them as we deserve to be.

The Lenape have shared this region with the United States before the nation was born. How can we claim to care about our people if we cannot even acknowledge those who have been here longer than us? Justice demands formal recognition and protection for the Lenape. The state and federal governments have a moral responsibility to act now!

FRIENDS, this is David D. Best from Bethlehem, temporarily in DC. We're long past due for the state gov't to re-recognize the Lenape tribes (all of them, the state is largely responsible for an early phase of the scattering). Remember what William Penn stood for. Let his legacy define our future.

I strongly support the state recognition of the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania. The Lenape people have a rich cultural heritage and a profound historical presence in this region. Recognizing the Lenape Nation not only honors their enduring legacy and contributions but also promotes the preservation of their cultural traditions and rights. State recognition is a crucial step towards acknowledging the Lenape Nation’s sovereignty, ensuring their voices are heard, and fostering a more inclusive and respectful relationship between the state and Indigenous communities

The Native Americans or First Nations have been ignored for far too long by Legislators but it is time that we are all recognized regardless pf our Tribal Nation. Right now it is the Lenape Nation. I am Cherokee and live in Pennsylvania. What other First Nation Tribes live here in Pennsylvania that may or may not have Pennsylvania State recognition? I feel strongly that this is an important issue in all 50 States. An issue that needs to be addressed. 8 know I am tired of putting that I am White as my race whenever that is only partially true because I am also Cherokee.

This Commonwealth contains the ancestral homeland of the Lenape People, and they are far from extinct. It is the responsibility of the State Government to recognize their status as.

Pennsylvania was founded originally on the short peace made between Quaker and Lenape. I think righting the subsequent wrongs should take some precedent in the Commonwealth. What idealism we like to imagine William Penn stood for, of peace between peoples, should be given action rather than remaining myth for the history books. Recognition is a good start.

I was born and raised in Mercer County, Pennsylvania—in the heart of the Shenango Valley. As someone who walks a spiritual path deeply rooted in reverence for the land and its history, I believe it is both a moral and spiritual obligation to acknowledge those who first tended this soil. Long before colonial borders were drawn, this region was home to the Lenape people—keepers of the rivers, forests, and spirit of this land. Though forcibly displaced through broken treaties and generations of systemic erasure, the Lenape never vanished. Their descendants remain strong, and the spirit of their stewardship still lingers in the earth, water, and wind. Recognition is not simply a legal formality—it is an act of restoration. It is the first step toward justice, healing, and reconnecting our region with the truth of its past. I strongly support any and all efforts to officially recognize the Lenape among the original inhabitants of the Shenango Valley, and to honor their enduring connection to this land. No community can move forward in strength without acknowledging the roots beneath its feet. Let us honor the ancestors—not just in memory, but in action.

As People, whose ancestors sought a better life by emigrating to this Country, I believe that to define and operationalize our Country as a Democracy, we need to acknowledge the Lenape nation of Pennsylvania. I am unclear as to why our State Representatives are hesitating to move forward on this issue. We need to support inclusion by embracing all in our PA state community. Please give serious consideration to this important issue!
