Dear friends,
We, the Seaconke Wampanoag Tribe, welcome the community to gather with us in peace for a rally at the Rhode Island State house in support of our bills asking for state recognition of our tribe and for a process to recognize native tribes in general in the state of Rhode Island. It's almost time to vote on our bills and we need a big showing of support!!
We are asking everyone to be there by 2:30pm this upcoming Tuesday, June 13th and Thursday, June 15th- the rally will only be for a couple of hours. Dress comfortably and feel free to wear regalia if you so choose. If you have a hand drum, please bring it!
Please bring your family and friends. We need the support of our diverse community, our brothers and sisters, shamanic practitioners, spiritual leaders, the pride “two spirit” community, native kin, friends of the tribes and allies. We hope to see you there on this historic occasion.
In the spirit of our ancestor Anawan, advisor to King Philip, and he who led us to what is now known as Anawan’s Rock in Seaconke (Rehoboth, MA today), “Iootash!!” - Stand tall and fight!!
When: Tuesday 6/13 and Thursday 6/15 @ 2:30pm both days
Where: Rhode Island State House in Providence, RI
We’ll have some signs to carry; if you’re wanting to make your own, keep in mind that our bill numbers (5020 & 5021) will be changing very soon (we’re waiting to hear what the new numbers are), so refrain from using the actual numbers in your signage.
We so appreciate your support and hope to see you there!
