We are doing a very poor job of co-existing with wildlife in Alberta. We need good stewardship and conservation policies to protect wildlife not invitations to slaughter them.

These endangered-spies animals belong to all Albertans and Canadians. STOP allowing small interest groups, eg. hunters and hunting guides, etc, to dictate wildlife policies in Alberta. Animals have "a right to live" also. Who decides if a magnificent grizzly bear is a "problem bear." The hunters? the hunting guides? As a minister of the Alberta government, it is the job to PROTECT wildlife, not sell it to the cheapest bidder. Thank you for rescinding this legislation. Kathy Danielson, Calgary

As a former subsistence trapper and hunter and a member of an Alberta indigenous people, I understand the care that must be taken to not over-hunt, overfish, over-trap and over-harvest a region. I lived and supported my family and extended family, as a young man, through trapping, hunting, fishing and gathering plants for food and sale. Without the little money this brought in and the food it provided, my wife and children, in-laws and elders would not have had enough to live, slowly getting ill from a bad diet of processed foods and not enough warm clothes and shelter. Keeping the balance of life in a region is imperative. Knocking nature off kilter by destroying a species or through imbalance is a way of destroying the ground upon which you and all others stand and live. It is insanity to act in this fashion because once a species, whether plant or animal, is deleted or lowered irretrievably in a region, that region will slowly begin to die. In this day and age regions of nature are surrounded and broken up by huge swaths of the earth that are destroyed by “civilization “ and “progress “ and poisoned by “weed killers” and “fertilizers” and “industrial and industry chemicals” seeping deep into the earth and water table affecting all life at a cellular level without any kind of reversal, creating cancers and diseases of internal organs, making everyone sick so that it’s impossible to live without medicines that are as potent and poisonous as the causes of the illnesses whose symptoms the medicines are supposed to alleviate. I am not a tree-hugging, return to running around bare-assed in the woods kind of person. I know that this way of life has already gone too far and the earth will never recover and that we have to live in the shit we dump, eat and drink the shit that is in our food and breathe the shit in the air until we die and this is the life we are leaving to our children and all of nature. Too harsh? It’s the bare truth. An out-of-balance way of life, driven by greed, a desire for “things” that we could live without and that we throw away in favour of new “things”. A way of life that is driving all reasonable alternatives, that kept us alive and well for eons, out of existence. And instead of working to slow the race to extinction we are pushing to get there faster by decisions like the ones we are discussing here and protesting against through this petition. Follow the science. Listen to the ones who work to slow down our rush to extinction and show that you listened by following their instructions. Put away your greed and enjoy watching life in its natural habitat. This will only be available on video someday soon and our children’s children will only see an animal in a cage or stuffed in a museum, a plant in a book and never smell fresh air perfumed by flowers after a rain. ( I fear the day when we love, live, eat, breathe, drink, sleep through artificially created lifestyles. Wait! We are already there. Take a pill and settle down. ) I have said enough. I am in my dotage (look it up in a dictionary) and I will be gone soon. Just like my way of life. Just like your way of life.

Killing "for fun" is unconscionable, whether it be humans or any animals. Our species no longer needs to kill animals for food, let alone sport. All creatures share the capacity humans have for joy, fear, and suffering.

I’ve grown up with a family who regularly went out to drive and seek out wildlife. Still to this day I get that childlike excitement while going through our forests and wildlife areas and seeing them with my own eyes. These environments give me so much comfort and peace from the busy city life. Please don’t take that away from our younger generation. And don’t punish our wildlife for your benefit, they don’t even have their own voice.
