Changing local discharge By-laws for hunting in Residential Areas in Ramara Ontario Canada

The Issue

I am a resident of the Val Harbour subdivision in Ramara, ON. Our tranquility is being disrupted by hunters who are hunting too close to our homes. The excessive gunshots are not only intrusive but also pose a threat to our safety and quality of life.

Hunting within residential areas presents an array of risks including accidental shootings, noise pollution, and disturbance to local wildlife populations. According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), there were 489 incidents related to hunting in North America in 2019 alone - this is not something we can ignore.

Ontario's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act (1997) already prohibits discharging a firearm from or across the traveled portion of a public road without lawful authority or reasonable excuse. We believe that this law should be extended further - it should be illegal for anyone to hunt within residential areas.

We urge the township in Ramara Ontario to take immediate action against this issue by implementing stricter regulations on the local discharge by-laws or certain areas where hunting can occur. This will ensure the safety and peace for all residents living here while also respecting the rights of hunters who abide by these rules.

On Wainman's Creek the township has just purchased the land 3700 concession rd 8. Hunting was permitted on the land from previous owner. Now that the Township has purchased the land hunters have still been hunting on it or on Wainman's Creek and have been shooting ducks in that direction of the Townships property. If the hunters shoot the other way it's towards Val Harbour residents homes. This is a serious situation and with the hunting becoming more and more every year it becomes more of a risk that something will happen that could be prevented.

MNR has been called several times and they refuse to acknowledge that unsafe conditions are occurring.

I am asking the Township to put up signs along Wainman's Creek to advise of no hunting on the Township's newly purchased land and that the Township consider installing trail cams to monitor the area for dangerous hunting. As By-law doesn't have the manpower to observe these issues.

Please sign this petition if you stand with us in creating safer neighborhoods free from unnecessary disturbances caused by inappropriate hunting activities.
