The First Amendment remains a cornerstone of democratic societies, protecting free speech, religion, press, assembly, and petition. Recent events, such as debates over online censorship and the limits of free speech, have sparked renewed interest in this fundamental right. Petitions under this topic address a wide range of issues, from protecting journalists and whistleblowers to advocating for internet freedom and combating hate speech.
One petition with thousands of signatures calls for the protection of whistleblowers who expose government misconduct, highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability. Another petition focuses on combating online hate speech and harassment, emphasizing the need to create a safe and inclusive digital space for all.
Join the fight to uphold the First Amendment by exploring the petitions and taking action. Your support can help safeguard free expression and promote a fair and just society for all.
Vote against mandated readings of King James Version Bible in Idaho public schools. How my minor children are approached with spiritual relationships will be determined by their parents. That includes but is not limited to which versions of written documents they encounter and which passages are appropriate for them. Many words and statements can be taken out of context, and writings are always influenced by the author, audience, time period, location, and circumstance. No one should force their views on anyone else, especially minors.
As the current Miss Pikeville Pride it is imperative that people of all ages are able to gather and share stories and yes see drag entertainment. Drag saved my life in the 90s. It gave me a stage to be creative and help me understand who I was as an individual. Expression is imperative for ALL people no matter how they identify.
Drag is one of the most dynamic and human forms of expression we have, and to criminalize art and the voices of those already fighting to hold the same space allotted to any other person is simply the enabling of hatred under the fragile guise of protection. When drag kings and queens have been responsible for the amount of death and destruction as the church, we can talk. Until then, our stage, our space and our craft will remain our right to share with and AT pride.
I’m a member of the ULC and a Proud Christian. I don’t let my faith affect me being a proud Bisexual as well my God has no problem with any of his children expect those who twist his words and use them to hate others!
I grew up in a strict Christian household. And even my very strict religious parents believe this is wrong. And very unchristian like. In their words they said “shame on that church”
Christianity is about spreading love not hate. And this is a clear example of hate that needs to be stopped
Drag is about freedom, liberation, and expression. For that reason I can understand why the Christian church fears it. The church has historically valued strict gender roles and continues to do so. Imposing its values on willing congregations is one thing, but attempting to police entire populations outside of their church is simply unacceptable. Legally and morally drag performers have a right to exist in full view of people who WANT to see them.
Being called my deadname and misgendered feels weird and makes me uncomfortable so it would be very helpful if teacher would use my preferred pronouns and name
