The library is one of the few places in town and in the surrounding areas that hosts free activities for children. As a mother, I use the library frequently with my children. The services the library provides encourage a lifelong love of learning. Free access to books, information, literacy activities, and community events are invaluable to our town.
I still remember going to the library for the first time when I was around 4 years old. The library has been such an important place in my life ever since. From books and computers, to a warming/cooling center when I was homeless. Please don't take away the opportunity to pass such a wonderful place & resource on to my 2 year old daughter.
The library is a vital service to this community. The library has been a place to keep up on new series and authors without spending hundreds on books. It shares that joy with the world. It has given me access to the internet as a teen to complete school projects. And back in the day it had the books I needed to write reports. Now it is a source of relaxation, enjoyment, and education for me and my family. And there being a few homeless folks there has not impeded that.
As a poor kid from a rural area, the local library was one of the few places I could go and do something meaningful and enjoyable that didn’t cost money.
Reading gave me a love for learning that’s made me a better person.
Rural areas need libraries. Every child and adult deserves access to books.
I remember going to the library all the time growing up. My mom, who raised me and my sibling by herself, would bring me there when she was working. That is one of the places that made me fall in love with books and writing. I want the public library to stay open, not only for me, but for the future generations it will inspire.
I grew up in Moses Lake and despite the issues with the town, I do have a soft spot for it. It’s a community that needs more education and help, not less. Cutting funding for the library has got to be one of the worst things they can do right now. Children and teens need the library for community and learning. Troubled youth need a place like the library to get away from bad homes or have a place to rest or to study in a safe environment. Unhoused people also need the library as it’s the only place they can go to be treated like human beings and get some form of shelter. The library getting shut down would be one more domino falling toward the slow death of the community.
I live in Western Washington now, but I grew up in near Moses Lake (out in McConihe Flats area) and my family lives there. A library is supposed to be the center of a community. The community of Moses Lake deserves to have a place to read, a place to bring their children, a place learn and grow and just be.
