RUFS LAW: Help Protect Victims of Domestic Violence
My name is Cheryl Hughey, my husband, Terry Hughey, and I are the Founders of the Rising Up From Silence (RUFS) Foundation. I am a survivor of domestic violence.
For the past eight years, RUFS has worked alongside victims and survivors who are trying to rebuild their lives after abuse. Through our advocacy, we have seen a heartbreaking pattern: many victims enter relationships without knowing that their partner has a history of domestic violence convictions. In many cases, this lack of information can have devastating consequences.
That is why we are asking Florida lawmakers to support RUFS Law.
RUFS Law seeks to establish stronger protections for victims by creating a system that promotes accountability, increases awareness, and helps individuals make informed decisions about their personal safety. We believe that victims deserve every available tool to protect themselves and their families from repeat offenders.
Every year, thousands of Floridians experience domestic violence. Behind every statistic is a mother, father, child, sister, brother, friend, or neighbor whose life has been forever changed by abuse.
This petition is not about revenge. It is about prevention.
It is about giving victims a voice, promoting accountability, and helping prevent future acts of violence before they occur.
After eight years of advocacy, education, and survivor support, RUFS is taking the next step by asking Florida legislators to consider legislation that will strengthen protections for victims and families impacted by domestic violence.
