'Corrective rape' is a hate crime targeting LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly lesbian women, with the intent to change their sexual orientation. This form of violence disproportionately affects marginalized communities in South Africa, highlighting intersectional issues of gender, sexuality, and safety.

Institutions sometimes face criticism for inadequate responses to domestic violence, including lack of accountability in cases involving public figures or organizational policies that fail to protect victims. These challenges complicate survivors' access to justice and safety measures.
