Justice for the 22 Dogs Rescued from Indiana's Dog-Fighting Rings
The Issue
Federal authorities raided two active dog-fighting operations in central Indiana. What they found was heartbreaking: 22 dogs and puppies — many scarred, terrified, and some still puppies — rescued from a life of cruelty, isolation, and forced combat. The raids were part of a major criminal indictment involving drug trafficking, gang activity, and organized dog fighting across multiple properties.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, these dogs were bred, trained, and exploited as part of a multi-state crime ring. Some were found chained in backyards, others in makeshift fighting pits. All had been treated as disposable tools in a violent underground industry.
Now, 21 people have been federally charged. But this cannot end with arrests alone.
We demand that the U.S. Department of Justice and local prosecutors pursue the maximum sentencing for all defendants under federal law — including up to 5 years per violation of the Animal Welfare Act. No plea deals. No early outs. These were not minor infractions — they were acts of deliberate, repeated torture.
We also call on Indiana officials and federal partners to ensure that the 22 rescued dogs are treated as victims, not evidence. That means urgent funding and support for their medical treatment, behavioral rehabilitation, and eventual placement into loving homes — not warehousing in shelters or automatic euthanasia.
This case is one of the largest dog-fighting busts in recent Indiana history. It must become a turning point. Our courts have the power to send a clear message: that cruelty toward animals will face real consequences — and that every life matters, even those without a voice.
Add your name if you believe in justice for these 22 dogs — and for all animals suffering behind closed doors.
