The COVID-19 outbreak and associated lock-downs are putting the livelihoods and lives of billions of people across the world at risk.

The simplest and most direct way to protect individuals from financial crisis (and related homelessness and starvation) and enable compliance with isolation measures, is to provide a basic income for every citizen of the world.

A Global Universal Basic Income also has the potential for much good in the longer term - including: reducing inequalities;  reducing the impact of automation; reducing the need for people to work in environmentally damaging jobs; reducing some of the push/pull factors on migration; valuing and increasing volunteering, caring and part- time working; reducing some of the push/pull factors on migration.

The Global Basic Income can be pegged at a certain level such as The Living Wage or equivalent.

Implementing Universal Basic Income to give home & food security through Covid-19 can act as a trial to see if such a scheme could be continued and used to help resolve these broader issues in the long term.

This petition urges the IMF, the World Bank, the UN, the WHO, the G20 and all national governments to immediately take action to identify the ways and means to implement a Global Basic Income. This will include identifying all individuals and ways of paying money to them which may vary from country to country.

The petition urges the above bodies to work together to ensure that every citizen of the World is supported to get through this unprecedented crisis.
