United Nations

The United Nations (UN) is an international organization comprising 193 member states, formed after the Second World War in 1945, with a primary aim to maintain international peace and security, foster friendly relations among nations, promote social progress and higher living standards, defend human rights, and uphold international law. The organization consists of multiple subsidiary structures and agencies such as the General Assembly, the Security Council, and the International Court of Justice among others. Functioning through a complex system of specialized agencies and programs, it tackles issues ranging from climate change and sustainable development to conflict resolution and refugee assistance.
