Improve accountability at Colorado Springs Housing Authority

Improve accountability at Colorado Springs Housing Authority

The Issue

I spent over four years at SouthView Plaza as a tenant under the Colorado Springs Housing Authority (CSHA). During my time there, I witnessed firsthand the inadequacies and failures of the housing authority staff. Their lack of accountability and unprofessional behavior were not only frustrating but also deeply disheartening. Terri, in particular, abused her position of power without facing any consequences, making tenants like myself feel helpless and discouraged in claiming our rights.

The CSHA staff needs immediate training on dealing with the public, with a strong emphasis on empathy, professionalism, and respect. It's crucial that staff members are required to understand and uphold the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) laws and policies as part of their job. This will ensure everyone is treated fairly and with dignity, regardless of their circumstances.

The current practices at CSHA need an overhaul. There's no room for unsavory business practices, excuses, or threats. We must ensure there is 100% accountability, with a comprehensive and regular audit of staff to guarantee compliance with policies and procedures. Full transparency is necessary with consistent consequences to maintain fairness and trust.

It is essential to reform how Paul and Terri operate within CSHA. Their approach must be reviewed, and they should be held accountable for any misconduct. All voices within our community matter and must be heard and respected.

Better training, improved communication, and mutual respect between staff and tenants will result in fewer complaints and conflicts, leading to happier residents. I urge the Colorado Springs Housing Authority to prioritize these changes for better living conditions and a healthier community environment.
