Implement Regulation of MTA Bus Cameras in Co-op City, Bronx
Implement Regulation of MTA Bus Cameras in Co-op City, Bronx
The Issue
Among the bustling streets of Co-op City in the Bronx, New York, lies an issue that deeply affects its residents - the excessive issuance of tickets due to the indiscriminate use of MTA Bus Cameras. Many of these incidents occur when residents double park briefly to drop off their loved ones right in front of their buildings. Astonishingly, these episodes often take place where there are no Bus Lane Markings or School Zone signs at all.
Seniors living in the residential areas of Baychester, Co-op City Boulevard and Hutchinson River Parkway are significantly impacted by this issue. These areas lack the necessary markings and signs; yet, our residents are being ticketed by the MTA Bus Cameras. As a community centred around the largest Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC) in the world, we consider this a severe encroachment upon our rights and a mistreatment of our elderly population.
Our coalition, the Coalition to Save Affordable Housing, along with various Co-op City organisations, calls for immediate rectification of this situation. We demand that the MTA hold an assessment meeting regarding the indiscriminate use of their bus cameras, specifically in our residential areas where seniors are unjustly ticketed.
We will not be silent. This plight of our community needs urgent intervention. We will not allow our seniors and resident shareholders to suffer the injustice of unwarranted fines due to a lack of oversight. Therefore, we implore you to stand with us, sign this petition, and compel the MTA to address this matter immediately.
