False Accusations of Christian Persecution and Alleged Christian Genocide in Nigeria

False Accusations of Christian Persecution and Alleged Christian Genocide in Nigeria
The Issue
We, the concerned citizens and students of International Relations, write to express our deep concern over the recent wave of misinformation and deliberate false accusations alleging Christian persecution or Genocide in Nigeria. These baseless claims, often propagated by individuals and organisations seeking global sympathy and financial gain, pose a serious threat to national unity, peace, and religious coexistence in our country.
Nigeria’s insecurity challenges are not rooted in religious persecution but rather in long-standing governance failures, poverty, debt mismanagement, corruption, and external interference. The crises affecting both Muslims and Christians in the North and South are products of structural neglect, political manipulation, and the inability of successive governments to act sincerely, judiciously, and swiftly in addressing the root causes of insecurity.
It is intellectually dishonest and morally unjust to portray Nigeria’s multi-faceted security problems as a deliberate war against Christianity. Such narratives are dangerous, misleading, and capable of igniting unnecessary religious tension across the nation and the African continent. Those behind these accusations must be held accountable for spreading misinformation capable of undermining national stability and global peace.
We, as citizens and students of International Relations, truly wish to be part of history by standing on the side of truth, justice, and fairness. We therefore call upon the United Nations, European Union, African Union, ECOWAS, Amnesty International, Transparency International, the International Criminal Court, and the Government of the United States of America to investigate these false allegations thoroughly, ensure impartiality in reporting, and uphold international law by calling those responsible for this global misinformation to order.
Until proven otherwise by a competent court of law, we urge that these individuals and organisations spreading such falsehoods be placed under travel restrictions or no-fly zones, pending transparent and verifiable investigation outcomes. This will not only serve justice but also deter future manipulation of international sympathy for political or financial purposes.
The world must stand for truth over propaganda, justice over bias, and unity over division. Nigeria deserves fair representation and objective analysis, not weaponised narratives that exploit religion for ulterior motives.
